I have a 2001 Dakota QC with 4.7 shaker hood with K&N and Dual Exhaust. Every about 10 seconds while my truck is idling I can hear a pop from the exhaust. Its sounds like a missing sound but it doesn't do it repeatedly. There are instances too when Im driving down the road at a steady speed and It all of a sudden misses. But not alot. Doesn anyone know what it could be? My truck only has 12,000 miles. Would it be plugs or something else. I thought about changing the plugs to the Autolite 3923's but I've heard some bad things about them as well as good things, would do you think??????

Ihave 2 Daks, with the 4.7 and ii use the 5224 Autolites, tried the 3923 and didnt work well. I would take it to the dealer and let them check it out, it could be a bad coil on plug, the resistance could be too high on one of the plug coils?? If you have probs let the warranty work for you, i found out the hard way, and then the dealer wouldnt honor the problem because i messed with it first...

Coil, Injector or Plug

If it's still under warranty - definately let the dealer fix it for you. They can hook up the DRB and it will tell them exactly which cylinder is misfiring. From there they will either replace the coil, injector or plug for that cylinder. Mine did it for a while and it bugged the crap out of me. I replaced all of the plugs as a first step and it didn't cure the problem. Since I don't happen to own a DRB - I bought a new coil from my friendly dealer and used the trial and error way. I kept swapping it into different cylinders until it cured the problem. No more "pops" while idling. And of course it took me 6 different cylinders to find it. If I would have started on the other side of the engine it would have only taken me 2! hahaha

Is the coil the thing that is attached to the plug? It might be better to go trial and error, the rates at the dealership are outragious!!! The truck isn't under warranty because it was totalled. Thanks for the info!
