Message: Here are a couple of pics from Saturday's "Test & Tune" at St. Thomas Dragway. There were 5 of us from this board and dodgetrucks.org: HPIndy and his 96 Indy Pace Ram, Middy and his green 99 5.2 RC, Brad and his 5.9 lowered black RC (nice rims!) and Matt with his intense blue CC R/T. It was fun. How did I do for my first time, and being the only sixer? Well, as Middy put it, I was "good luck... for whoever was in the other lane."
Imagine having this thing pull up beside you on your first trip to the track! Fortunately, he pulled off to the side for some tinkering!

Message: Yup, I am taking that pic from the lineup- behind me you can see HP Indy. I really sucked - 17.619 was my fastest, but my reaction time dropped from around 1.2 to .663, so that at least was encouraging.

Message: Well you have a experience that I have yet to do. I have never taken mine down the track. I just have the G-tech. You may not be completly happy with the times but at least you can say you ran it.:) Definitely sounds like a good time. That is a very respectable reaction time.

Message: Thanks CW. Are there tracks near you that you can go to? There are quite a few in Ontario. St. Thomas was quite a drive, over 4 hours, but it was a great day for a drive (I may have been lousy at the track, but I managed to get my dak up to 185 kms. on an empty stretch of toll highway!) Too bad you don't live closer, the shootout is coming up on June 8th, should be a lot of fun!

Message: Yes there is a track near by but I have never had a truck before this one that I really wanted to run. It should be open now. It is a real temptation to come down I do have holidays coming but I will use them to visit my Dad. That is a drive. About nine hours.

Message: Hi Middy. I don't know if HP Indy took any. I guess I goofed on Brad's engine size (whoops!). I'll definitely see you for the shootout then, wonder if I can get an engine swap by then heh, heh, heh.
CW, you're right it is addicting! I wonder just how much a 360 swap would cost. :)

Message: Sounds like a good time was had by all.
I'd like to try and get some NY, NJ, and Eastern PA Dak owners together at Raceway Park, in Englishtown, NJ.
Regarding your your times Lesley, I remember seeing a lot of so-called muscle cars (82 F-bodies) running high 16's and low 17's back in the early 80's, so mid 17's from a 4000+ lbs V-6 truck isn't all that bad. I'm sure you'll do better next time around.
As for the engine swap, I know a 318/360 will bolt in to your truck, but the real prob is the little stuff (wiring harnesses, etc). That's where the expense and aggravation come in.
In my experience, if you're really serious about the V-8, your best bet is to, either find a totaled R/T and swap every thing over, or, just trade it in for a Dak that's equipped with all the stuff you want.

Message: Yeah, I know... but logic kind of goes out the window when it comes to my truck. I'm kind of attached to it. My mechanic has done several dakota v6/V8 swaps so if I get serious about it I won't have any problems with actually getting it done. The wiring harness and the PCM will be different.

Message: I'm thinking about getting some slicks for the shoot out. Especially if it is at St Thomas. That track is just too slippery for street tires. Had a great time Sat. And it is true Lesley, you are good luck. I ran my best time against you! Still a little disappointed with my times but what can you do!

Message: I have to admit, paying for 15" tires is a whole lot cheaper than 17 or 18". I like my rims, just like changing things up I guess. I think some cosmetic changes are next. Get a little more show with the go. Tonneau cover and roll pan are tops on the list. Unfortunately that list always seems to get longer and longer. Thanks for the compliments on my truck. I think I'm just too fussy when it comes to mine own stuff.

Message: Millhouse - yeah, I know! My Boyds came in 10" wide instead of the 17x9 I ordered. Therefore, in order to complete the turning radius, I had to go with a low profile tire (didn't want to send the rims back due to the BS factor). A drop is in the plans.
It looks like I won't be able to make the shootout. I'm having tranny problems, so the dak has to go in on Tuesday to get looked at. My mechanic advised that I not race it. Dayum!!! I was really, really looking forward to this weekend.

Message: Yeah I suppose that is a little far to drive just to hang out. Thats too bad you can't make it down.
If you have to get it rebuilt throw a shift kit in there. Got mine for 180 cdn. plus about 3 hours of labour. Not cheap but it really helps these trannies out. Make sure they get the oil feed hole to the torque converter enlarged when they do the kit. They have a tendency to starve the TC. That may be what is wrong with yours.

Message: Good call Lesley, with the BS factor. Still trying to get this crap straightened out. Even worse, my Dak is just sitting now. Part of the reason I got 18's was because I am so low that I will not pass inspection, the wheels would have brought me up just enough, so as of the end of April, I have been driving my winter car. Gotta love it!! And now all this BS with the BBB, who knows how long it will take. I talked to someone in the BBB Houston who informed me that since HP Performance is not a member of the BBB, they cannot make them do anything, just give them a bad mark. GREAT. Guess if they still do nothing about it, I'll be making a trip to Texas to go to court.... Unbelievable, they screw up two peoples rims from the same board, coincidence???

I don't know what kind of tranny probs you are having, but...
My van was shifting strangely and the Dealer was all ready to sell me a replacement auto trans ($3000+). I took it to an oil change place where they totally flushed the trans ($70). My shifting problem went away!!

Message: Dakaty: I got it flushed last week, hoping that would help. It hasn't felt right for a while, it just cannot get out of it's own way off the line, and shifts and hunts when it isn't supposed to.
Low99 - I am really sorry to hear of the trouble you are going through. I'm happy now that I have the rims on, but I was disappointed at having to go with the low profile tires (which are really sharp anyhow) and not fill up the space the way I envisioned. I sure hope you get that mess settled soon.
Brad: Hope it works just as well if I just send you some luck!!
