Subject: Performance Upgrades IP: Logged
Message: I want to increase the performance of my 01 4.7L 4x4 CC. I think I want to get headers, exhaust(Flowmaster dual out), and wait for the K & N intake to come out. Anything I should know in particular about these things? Any other things I'm leaving out? Also, what size pipes for headers and exhaust should I get? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Message: Forgot to add...will headers going into one cat be pointless? I live in California and don't think I can replace cat legally. Thanks for the help.

Message: Headers are a waste of time on the 3 cat configuration (theres a cat on the back of each exhuast manifold and another upstream of the muffler). Go with a cold air high performance intake with a K&N filter (I prefer 360AirIntakez-looks great and works phenominal), a catback exhuast, a IAT from SpeedTweaks, port your throttle body (or get a 70mm). Some guys swear better plugs help. Lower your thermostat to 180 and run 5W Synthetic oil. After you've spent all that money and have financially recovered you can go to a Jet Chip and you'll be pushing near 300hp.

Message: Ok man i don't know about a 4.7 but on my 5.9 those jet chips are a waste of money and another thing i have heard are the airaid throttle body spacers, they are a waste of money. They actually robb you of horsepower. Look into it really good on forums and stuff before you go and get it. About performance. I would suggest you getting an intake and new throttle body first. You should get more air into the engine before you start on the exhaust. By opening up the exhaust some you will lose any torque that you have made. At least that is what happens in the 5.9 but i am not to familiar with the 4.7 so i could be wrong. Your best bet for headers is mopars if they came out with them yet. But you can check out krcperformance.com, speedtweaks.net, and worldwideperformanceparts.com. They say that the pph headers are a good buy. They also have the JBA headers. I have them on my truck and i love them. I don't have a dyno result but the "seat of my pants dyno" says there was a noticable increase in power. Hope i could help. Make sure you check out those sites, they are good dakota sites. They specialize in dakotas.

Message: here are some things that i have heard work good on the 4.7's
70mm tb
custom flash pcm (mike leach does them)
and HO cams
i have talked to some guys that have done the intake filter and they have put the stock intake back on.... headers dont do anything for the 4.7's, and a cat-back dosent help that much either
Eric, 98 5.2 5speed, K&N gen II, 50mm TB, 2bbl M-1, 1.7RR's, JBA ciramic headers, carsound cat, dumped gibson, and a lot more

Message: Thanks for the info guys. Too bad some of that stuff won't work...oh well. Guess I'll just have to use the money for a Hanson bumper and Bilstein shocks. Thanks again!

I am kind of shocked to see someone else said that they heard that I tohught I was finding out something first and posted it....hmmmm oh well
those 3923 autolites may of robbed me on a few hp also I'm not sure yet , I just put them in a few days ago and my times seem higher already, not as much torque or responce? could someone give me some feedback on those plugs......

Message: That's how the 3923s worked in mine..... they didn't. I lost low end torque and throttle response. I pulled them out and threw them away. That's also what I did with the Gibson muffler that came with my Mopar Cat-back exhaust system..... pulled it out and threw it away also.
