Subject: 4.10's and no speedo change IP: Logged
Message: So can anyone tell me why when I changed from the 3.55's to the 4.10's, which is a decent jump in gearing, didn't change my speedo at all? And by the way I would say it is the best mod I have done to date but also the most expensive. Any info would be appreciated.

Message: if your truck is a 98 and up no speedo change required. The sensor reads wjeel speed not driveshaft speed.

Message: I got my gears and had them installed at 4 wheel parts here in Dallas. They were a little more expensive but I knew the company and knew they stood behind their work. The gears were around 300 dollars and to have them installed was of course more. Ended up costing me 719 with tax and all I think. They warranty their labor for 90 days and the parts for life. They do an excellent job on the install. I have no whining that the other people are complaining about. I think it was a 14% mechanical advantage over the 3.55's. Great mod. You can get it done at hole in the wall shops for almost half that price but I don't know what kind of gears and warranty you get along with what kind of experience and work. Hope this helps.

Message: Does anybody know where the sensor is? and what it uses to encode the signal? If it's like a crank trigger you could block out every other notch and all your readings would be at half and that'd probably take care of your tope end cutout.
hmmmmm....

Message: Do you think that 4.10s with a 5spd 4.7l would be
too steep? in first gear i mean.
Im glad you told us that the sensor monitors wheel
speed . i was dreaming that you could go to your
dealer, tell em that you changed your ratio and
have them scan it in. If you really didnt, say you
have 3.21s and told em you are running 4.56s, the
computer would slow your mileage from racking up
so high! Anyways, im so bored.

Message: Actually it is the one off of Plano Parkway, between Jupiter and Ohio. They had great customer service! There is a guy there named Kevin who spewed knowledge on almost everything I asked. They never questioned me on having a 4X4.(which I don't by the way) A little more expensive, but you know, the majority of the time you get what you pay or. I didn't say all of the time.LOL

Message: Personaly I would think that 4.10s with a 5 speed would be to steep. That first gear is a killer 4:1 ratio. Even the 3.91s are a little sttep for that first gear. I wish first was about 3.4:1 or something like that. Then you wouldn't be shifing out of first quite so quickly.
I have been thinking that maybe 3.73 gears would be better. It would make first pull a little longer but not give up much final drive ratio.
