A new engine! It won't work. The manifolds are different. The 4.7 is a single barrel rather than the double that you have. If you want to change TB's I'd suggest one from Flometrics. Send an email to: bbridges@flometrics.com

You can swap a 5.2/5.9L TB on a 3.9...just not from a 4.7L.

Is the conversion from the 3.9l tbi to 5.2/5.9 tbi direct bolt on or is there fabricating involved?

I understand that you have to modify the throttle linkage to make it work.....that's it. Otherwise it bolts right on. See Bernd on more details in this.

YOU ONLY HAVE TO TO MODIFY THE LINKAGES WHEN YOU GOT THE TB FROM A DIFFERENT YEAR. THE V8 AND V6 LINKAGES ARE THE SAME AS LONG AS THEY ARE THE SAME YEAR. 92-93 IS THE SAME, AS IS 94-96, I'M NOT SURE ON THE GEN III. I PUT A 94 V8 TB ON A 95 V6 AND THE LINKAGES ARE THE SAME.

I'm looking to purchase a TB for my 5.9 and i've seen some recommendations for the Flometrics, but when i compare their CFM numbers to the TBs sold by Hughes Engines, the Flometrics doesn't put out what the Hughes Engines TBs do. I thought that the CFM was the beginning and the end on TB performance.

I was wondering why people are recommending Flometrics when those can't "flow" as well (that's putting it mildly...they aren't even close).

Thanks for your help. I posted this because i think you guys know what you're talkin about and trust your opinions.

I did the conversion today. It took about 45 mins. The only thing I had to purchase was a throttle cable for the 97 v8, since I have 98 v6. Once you do the switch and change the cable make sure you take the battery cable of to reset the computer or your truck will idle really high 3g. It was worth the time and effort.

The biggest difference (and this is coming from Flometrics and a few of the other TB builders), the V8's use a Disc connector and the V6's use a Ball-Stud. That's the difference on the linkage.

You can easily grind, drill, and replace the disc with a standard Holley Ball-Stud (found in any speed-shop or auto parts store).

Lowdak...pretty good solution on the throttle cable. Didn't even think about that. Thanks for the tip! :) (How much was the cable?)
