Message: You will need an X pipe, and you may lose some torque with true duals. Your highway MPG may improve a little.
I would do a single 3", it has shown to be the best option for our trucks (assuming you have the V-8).

Message: Well then you may want to stay away from duals all together. Just increase your current setup by 1/2" but don't open everything up to much, the smaller engines require some back pressure to perform at there best. Unless you want to keep things at high rpms all the time a very non restictive exhaust (no muffler or large duals) will not work that well as daily driver.

Message: I am most likely gonna do a 3" single on my 4.7L, but I have a question about the cats. I want Hi-Flow cats but I am wondering if putting in two Hi-Flow cats in the Y pipe (Stock Location) is needed to pass emissions or is one Hi-Flow cat enough to pass Texas emissions? I think the HP gains would be well worth it to risk it, but I would just like to know before hand. Also it would be much cheaper to use a Dynomax super turbo, but I have always wanted a Borla sound for my truck. I guess its only a $60 difference and that's not that big of a deal.

Message: hey R/Truck, if I put in a high flow mufller, with no backpressure, it will decrease my performance, but will it up my MPG?

Message: Jason- when you open up your exhuast to much your low end torque (off the line acceleration may suffer) but the high RPM horsepower should increase. This would help you on the highway with performance and a little MPG (maybe 1 or 2 mpg).
Grady- I live in the Houston area so I feel your pain. But don't go the Y pipe route yet, stick with the single High Flow cat. When you get it tested make sure your engine is hot, and running clean with good plugs. Since you have the 4.7 I assume its a newer truck so don't worry about it, you should pass just fine. 2 cats in a row would yield you a cleaner exhaust but shouldn't be needed.
Those emmision test are looking for unburned fuel and left over garbage your truck didn't burn off on combustion. So on a clean running engine that shouldn't be happening anyway.
