I heard that the 100 more hp and 100 more ft lbs of torque than the 5.9L, 5.7L Hemi is taking its place in the 3/4 -1 ton trucks. What about the dakota R/T's? are they still going to make them?

I rhink the hemi will find its way into the dakota in about 2006 or so...because they haven't even put it into the ram 1500 yet(can't understand way. and its not 100 more lb/ft of torque...its like 10 or 20 more.(how would the hemi manage 445 lb ft of torque??? thats around what the viper V10 has(the 8.0...not 8.3)
but dodge sux and there is not a high demand for really fast compact pickup trucks...I personally think they need to make an AWD R/T because w/o it, it won't have any traction...just like the new flop SRT-10....errr....I mean Ram SRT-10(no one is gonna pay 45,000+ for a fast pickup truck.)

By 2006, the Dakota might be the way of the M80...smaller and lighter, not needing a larger engine...Guess we just have to wait and see...

Later!

maybe Tom, but that would be dumb...what would the point be. if they do change the dak chances are I'll never own another pick-up truck. Put the M80 up against the tacoma and dodge goes down the toilet...lol

Read ot on car-truck news.com, after the Durango is upsized to meet consumer demands, they'll prlbably drop the Dakota, it will be about the same size as the Ram. Not my opinion, I read it there.

I would love to have an SRT-10 or a Ford Lightning. What are you talking about not paying for a fast pickup. I see some of the pick ups owned by the people on this board and when you include the buying price plus headers, exhaust, superchargers, TB's, etc.. you have a lot of money so that they can have a fast pick up. As for the 5.9, it really is time for it to go. I like 360's but in an age where pollution and efficiency is more important than HP, a chang could be good.

a turbo 5.9 could probably take out an srt 10 or a hemi. I'm just saying its too much money for what it is

I don't know where you found a price tag of 45,000 but the SRT Ram should start in the low to mid 30's to be competitive with the lightning. No one would pay 45,000 for a truck that runs near the same times as a stock lightning. My info is pretty rock solid!

I agree, it is too much money. But, if I had $45K laying around, there would be an SRT-10 in my garage. I think that if they change the Dakota body style to the M-80, I will keep my 2002 Dakota, maybe give it to my kid someday.

They don't even have the R/T listed for the 03 model year on the Dodge site. So chances are that the 5.9 is gone. Not too soon either. It has nice torque, but falls on its face in higher rpm, it really doesn't have any power. I have an 01 R/T RC. I am disappointed because I'll have to spend a lot of money to make it comparable to Mustang GTs.

Just a couple lines. They are going to start putting the 5.7 in the 1500's for '03, that would be a nice ride trimmed with the right stuff. The M-80 is a concept that looks like the Power Wagon concept only this one is based on the Dakota. You can all believe what you read but you really don't think they're going to drop the truck that started the "mid-size revolution" do you??
