This is just a word of caution for anyone thinking about doing business with Hughes Engines.
After installing a M1 intake I contacted Hughes and offered my Barrel intake for free if they just paid the shipping. They agreed and told me to send it UPS COD. I did have to front the money ($32.92)which would be paid back after they accepted the COD. Well today I was contacted by UPS and told Hughes refused the COD and was to pick up my manifold and would not receive the $32.92 back. I contacted Hughes and they only said Dave now didn't want it. I was told Dave would call me, but no call!
Hughes what kind of business practices is this? If you didn't want it you should have told me that the first time I called and asked if you did want it. If you are thinking of a purchase from them my advise is to go somewhere else.

I woudld wait a lil longer and try a couple more times to see what happens, but if they don't refund you, that is fukt up, 'SPECIALLY when you were being so nice in offering it to them. Where is Hughes, we need to get them on here to explain their side.

Hi Performance 4.7 parts either. Dave doesn't
think the 4.7 is for real and won't spend the
time developing parts for it.

weird, I ordered head gaskets, arp head bolts, intake gaskets, and assembly lube for overnight 3:00 delivery, and the price was great, not to mention a 4 hour early delivery. I went to them because when I called speadtweaks for this stuff, everyone except one person had already left for easter holiday, and he didn't know any prices or shipping codes. no big deal. I just though it was weird that they were @sses to you. not that Im defending or degrading them.

Why would you offer it to them for free when you have all these nice people in this forum to offer it to? I would have given you the shipping in advance. I have an experiment in mind for the manifold. Let me know if it is still available.

Guys,
I have also been bitten by the Hughes bug! They sent me a defective throttle body that stuck wide open and about killed me,when I called and complained, they said to send it back. When I sent it back, they had the balls to charge me a $60 "restocking fee"!!! I'll never do business with them again!

I do have the manifold in hand once again. If someone is interested and will pay the shipping I will send it to you. I still have heard no word from Hughes, I guess this is just a sample of there business practices.

Everyone should keep in mind that are two sides to every story and Hughes is not getting a chance to tell his side here. He may be eccentric but he knows his stuff. I think each person should decide for themselves.

You are wasting your time and money dealing with Hughes Engines. I paid them over $5,200 to rebuild my numbers matching 440 in my Coronet R/T. They claimed that it makes 525 HP. It dynoed at 287 HP on a G-Tech and ran 15.4 in the quarter mile, .2 slower than the stock engine that had 104,000 miles on it.

The engine used a quart of oil every 100 miles since start up. The intake gasket blew at 450 miles and I found that the center two passenger side intake bolts were finger loose. Then a valve seized up at 2,000 miles and the oil pump failed at 3,100 miles.

I took the engine to Gary Stanton Racing to be examined, measured and inspected and found that the cylinder bores were out of round by .0035 and were bored .043 over when .030 over pistons were used. This caused oiling of the plugs which made the already limping engine run worse. A valve seized up in the open position because they machined the valve guides too small on the ID and then hammered them into the heads. When the valve seized in the open position, the piston came up and smacked the valve back into it's seat and bent it. Then when the cam turned and tried to push the push rod to lift the valve, the push rod bent and fell into the lifter valley because the valve was bent and seized.

In typical fashion, Dave Hughes said that this was all my fault and he wasn't going to back any of the poor machine work and assembly that he claimed was done by a disgruntled employee that he had to fire two weeks after building my engine.

It was all my fault because I started the engine. If I had never started the engine, I would not have had any of these problems.

"Heads you lose" when dealing with Hughes Engines, his "Heads you win" slogan is a joke. Poor quality, poor attitude, insulting and nasty toward cash paying customers and non-existant customer service. Once they get your money, you are done.

$5,200 for 3,100 miles? And destroyed my numbers matching engine to the tune of costing another $5,500 to get it fixed and I had to go .060 over with new pistons to fix the block. The heads were destroyed because he over ported them.

I am going to do everything that I can to make sure that he does not rip off any of you guys. And before he tries to discredit me, let it be known that I am a senior design engineer at Holley Performance. He talked to me like I was an idiot and would not even reply to emails. When I called him, he talked to me like I was the dumbest SOB on the planet.

DO NOT SPEND MONEY WITH THESE CLOWNS, you will regret it believe me.
