Subject: What is this part? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 ext cab with 5.2 v-8 with 35,000
miles and I bought a pcv valve, which goes on the valve cover on the right (passenger)side, my question is, what is the valve that is on the left (driver)side valve cover that goes to the airhat?
and what does it do? does it need to be replaced?
Thanks, Fred.

Message: it's a breather filter, it keeps oil out of air system but lets fresh air in to engine for pcv to be closed system
i check mine yearly and change it 50,000 miles

Message: It also vents the crank. I pulled that ugly hose off, put a cute little chrome top K&N crank filter in the hole, and a rubber grommet to plug the opening in the air hat. Looks way better.

Message: hey, you can also clean that breather, by spraying the inside really well with TB/Carb cleaner. You will get all the oil build up out of there. I dont really know when they are supposed to be replaced, but i have always just cleaned mine and it stays working fine.

Message: Thanks everyone for all the info, I think I'll give the cleaning a try, and if that doesn't seem to do the trick, I'll replace it, as it should only cost a few bucks.
Thanks again, Fred.
