Subject: Removal of 3rd Cat - NOT
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm starting a new post on this so everyone sees this. Apparently others have cut off their 3rd cat, since the 02 sensors were before and after the pre-cats. More flow, better exhaust sound, no impact on air/fuel since you are not screwing with sensors. Guess what? My truck has an 02 sensor after the 3rd cat. Is that new in 2002? So, I guess I'll leave that 3rd cat (main cat) in place for now.

You could go to a high flow one.

Get you an O2 simms box, it will take care of that problem.

Don't ask me why but on my 2000 4.7l I have an O2 after my cat. On the other hand I have no precats.

Thats right, the 2000 got an 02 sensor with the one and only cat that they have. DC saw fit to give us 01 guys 3 cats but I guess they thought they would be nice and not give us any sensors on the main cat. Now I guess that they saw that they weren't being hard enough on us so the 02 guys get 3 cats with sensors on all 3. Gotta love those idiots up there! I wonder how many of those guys even drive our trucks or the high po cars dodge makes?

Thinking of making a custom straight pipe and removing the 3rd cat. But I would make it a bolt on just in case I ever need to replace the original. Has anyone done this because I am just wondering if that would trigger the O2 sensor behind the cat and give me a check engine light. Thanks for any info.

Yep that will light up the old MIL. Get yourself a high flow cat (its like not having a cat) or spend the same amount on a 02 simms box.

Now this isn't true in all trucks, the 01 and ups don't have sensors on the third cat so its ok to do what you want. Just see if you have 02 sensors after the cat you want to remove.
