Subject: most potent mod after intake and exhaust IP: Logged
Message: what is the best mod to get short of turbo/super/nitrous, besides intake and exhaust.
I want my 0-60 to be 9 or less by the end of the summer. Its 10+ now. what would it take to get it to 9 or less
say I added headers, TB, roller rockers and ignition w/wires and coil
any chance that would do it??? how much rwhp roughly would all that add??

Message: 10-15 rwhp to be conservative, those might
get you close to 9 sec, prob would, go for a
little shot of N2O, even 25 shot and youll be
well under ;-).

Message: all that stuff would have to add more then
10-15 rwhp
all those things individually claim 10+ hp
bernd said headers add 12-15 hp
not talking rwhp, but there isnt that much of a difference

Message: You have to remember that horse power is not
exact math 10 + 15 + 5 does not equal 30 in
the world of horse power. Though each mod
may claim a 10 hp increase, adding 3 mods
that claim 10 hp does not mean a gain of 30
hp. Yes each of them will add a little but they
do not necessarily each "add" thier respective
horsepower. Also 10- 15 rwhp = roughly 13-20
hp at the crank. thats an ave of 10% increase
in Hp over stock that is still a good. You
improvement. You might get 20-25 rwhp tops
but im trying to be conservative so you arent
disappointed and overestimate potential
gains. You will feel a difference with those
mods though. :-)

Message: nah dont have new tb yet
i have intake, exhaust, autolite 3923 plugs and jet 2.
i think the intake and exhaust added like 25 hp or so. although actually if that stuff adds 20 rwhp and rwhp is like 25% less then crank hp that would have me at 225 plus at the crank which is approaching V8 power(235, but less tq(maybe)). 4x4 V8s are rockets anyway CR said 4x4 4.7 auto QC 0-60 in 8.9(like lesley) so I might be right up there. add 75 shot and I'll take out an R/T. NOS would be cool and much less then super/turbo
ok i have to be stopped!! someone diss me please.
i think 1.7 RRs would actaully add like 10-15 hp legitimatly cause its an internal engine mod not just a flow thing. right??? ok this summer its on!!!

I didn't see a post that said which year truck you have, so I would recommend the Mopar PCM if
one is available. Removes the top speed limiter, increases the redline, changes the fuel mapping, and a couple other things I think.

Message: Heres my theory on adding HP and RWHP. Supposedly the engine has 250 at the crank , and dynos show about 190 at the wheels. So the drivetrain and accessories drain about 60HP. Anything you add to " free up " HP should go right to the rear wheels because the the drivetrain loss is a constant. Heads , intake , computer , exhuast , roller rockers , TB are all " freeing up " HP. But a supercharger or turbo that is driven by a belt takes some HP to make HP. So it all dont go right to the rear wheels.
I always see people say X % loss through the drivetrain. I think it should be an amount of loss , not a %.
If i have an engine that makes 300 HP and 250 goes to the rear wheels thats 50 HP loss or 16.6 %
If i free up 50 HP - then it has 350 HP with 300 at the wheels not a 16.6% loss = about 290.
See what I mean ? Should always be 50 HP loss
I asked Car and driver about this and they never replied.
Interested in what you all think.

Message: Good theory, i bet it does hold true at high
horse power. But i bet its an exponentially
decreasing graph with repsect to the actual
loss and crank power. (sorry engineering
student coming out in me). It would be
interesting to test that though i think that the
percentage would remain the same IF the
same transmission was used in all hp
figures. Remember, more hp = bigger better
tranny = more efficient at turning crank hp into
rwhp so you never know...

Message: Oh yeah , you d need a bigger trans for say ,1000 HP. Would be nice if the trans only took away 60 of that giving you 940 RWHP ! LOL
Thanks for the reply , Jcr

Message: yeah but someone on this site a long time back said that camaros have like 290 rwhp with 310 or 320 hp so that is 20-30 hp not 50, but that may have been incorrect
someone also said that 4.7s with 235 hp had 190 rwhp
so how can 250 also have 190??
i don't know
lets just talk about how many seconds stuff adds to 0-60s and 1/4s
what will headers do to your 0-60 / 1/4 mile?
and any other mods u can think of also
