Subject: tire size & mph IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 R/T and really want a set of Nitto NT555Rs for the rears but they dont have a size that gives me a 28" overall diameter. Closest they have is 275/40/17 which gives 25.63" overall. Is the speedo affected if a smaller dia. rear tire put on ? I just want some DOTs or some really good dry-traction tires for street/strip on my R/T rims.
All inputs welcome. Thanks.

Message: Nitto makes a 275/50R-17 which would measure 27.8 inches. Found it at www.discounttire.com
Just pick your city and enter the size you want.

Message: I see the 275 / 50 / 17s you recommended are the Nitto NT450 series. How do those babies hook up ?
Would they be any good at the strip ?
- Thanks

Message: big_torque,
The speedo is affected by ANY change to the tires' diameter/circumference, and there are two ways to correct it.
The first is to have a dealer re-program your CAB (Controller Anti-lock Brakes). However, most dealers will only flash the CAB with tire sizes that were actually available for that particular model & year. In my case, I went from the stock 235/75/15's to a set of 31x10.50x15's. Fortunately, these were part of an option package...thus the dealer could flash my PCM & correct my speedo reading & ABS behavior.
The second alternative is to hit up someone like SuperLift & get one of their modules that allows you to intercept & change the electrical pulses before they get to your speedo.
Hope that helps...
