If I was to purchase a camshaft for my truck what would I have to know about my truck and what all would I need to buy. Are camshafts a bad thing for the engine after it has been in there for like 60k to maybe a 100k miles? Would a low end cam be better for my truck or a horsepower cam be better. I think there are such... Thanks!!!! I am just taking notes while I am at college planning to see what I would like to work for this summer to put in my truck. Thanks!!!!

I would go for a cam ground for torque, unless you are planning on changing the intake too. These aren't light trucks to move around. Also, consider the amount of lift you get on the cam. Too much and you will have to get stronger valve springs. You might want to consider the 1.7:1 roller rocker arms. They really wake up the 5.2L!

I am eating this stuff up! I discovered a rear main leak the other day and I feel an excuse to pull the engine. :-)

Yeah just put them in this past weekend. Crower claims 20-25 HP and I would have to agree! Haven't made it to the track to get a better idea.
First gear is now completely useless. Mash the gas at 55mph and it climbs the rpms like it was in first gear! Can't believe the difference. ANd I don't even have the headers on yet! Can't wait to feel that difference!!

I got them straight from the crower site. fairly pricy $486.00 I think. krc performance has them about $50 bucks cheaper. found that after I ordered. never fails.

When you installed them did you have to buy new valve covers? Or did you modify the stock valve covers. I heard that they do not fit with stock valve covers. Thanks

If you can get your heads flow tested and then you can max out you power. Most heads flow the same if your lift is under .500

I installed them myself. Fairly simple install and the directions are easy to follow. Just had to readjust the rockers after the initial start up. Did have to buy the tall valve covers. I think if you massaged the baffles in the stock covers it might give enough room but the new valve covers look better anyways.

As for other mods, don't have a lot, yet. Flowmaster catback, 14" open air K&N, taylor wires 3923's, and accel coil. Will be putting a shift kit in the next few weeks. Have the 3.9 rears.

I have a 98 5.2 club cab. I have K&N GenII, MSD Ignition, wires, headers, flowmaster, Jetchip Stage 1, 180 T stat. Cant wait to get roller rockers. I work next to truck performance center they are selling the 1.7's for about the same price you mentioned. Where did you purchase the valve covers and how much are they. Maybe I will pick them up this weekend. How long did the whole process take you to install. Did you have to buy new valve covers gaskets aswell. Any other advise on this subjected would be appreciated. Thanks

Got mine from mopar. I looked around for other makes but no one seem sto make one for the magnum head. The mopar covers look awesome anyways! Mopar sells them with gaskets and all hardware necessary. I'm in Canada and paid $176 for the polished PN# P4876041 and about $50 less for the black wrinkle finish PN# P5249343. Thats canadian dollars and shop price. I think full list on the polished was $225Can.
Crower says it will take 3 hours, I took my time, double and triple checked everything in 5 hours. I left the valve covers off for the the initial start up. glad I did because I had to readjust them. Just remember to plug off all the vacuum hoses you remove so it doesn't rev way up when you start it.

When you start the engine without the valve covers on does the oil go slinging all over the place like on the old chevys?

Yes it does (oil all over). The pushrods are hollow whoch is how the oil is delivered to the rocker arms. (Also have a small hole)
