Message: I don't believe there is any statistical proof that any single year is really quicker or slower than the others. The range of performance is fairly wide for all years of trucks. Nobody has ever really figured out why some go fast and others don't... that I know of. Theoretically the '00 and up are supposed to be quicker because of a change in the cank pulley diameter and also the fan blade pitch. I go to the track fairly often and the limited number of trucks that are also there don't lead me to any conclusions.

Message: From what I've seen at the dragstrip ( 1/8 mile) the R/T's only run .10-.15 sec quicker than a 318 powered truck of similar bodystyle. My guess that is that the heavier duty driveline (A518 , 9 1/4 , 17" wheels)in the R/T takes more power to drive than the lighter duty driveline (A500 , 8 1/4 , 15" wheels)and pretty much takes care of the extra 20hp that the R/T makes from the factory.
