Message: This sounds like a silly question, but I have a 4.7 liter V-8, 4x4, and AWD truck. I was wondering which is the best way to accelerate off the line? Is it by flooring the pedal or by gradually pressing dwon the pedal. Thanks.

Message: You want to accelerate as fast as possible with out spinning the tires. Push it down as far as you need to so that the tires just chirp when you take off, then ease it to the floor.

Message: Thanks. I have AWD all the time, so I'm afraid if I floor it, the tires will slip and it will take away power to stop the tires from spinning.

Message: Cueball: Your AWD does not have an electronic traction control with it, so if the tires start spining, they'll spin until they get traction again. All of this is a mute point however. The 4.7 is a good engine, but not good enough to spin the tires on a AWD truck. If you get them to spin, you shouldn't be going fast because it's probably because of ice on the road. So, to answer your question, power brake it with the gas to the floor and let it rock....

Message: So AWD 4.7 Daks won't spin the tires? I guess I'm a little surprised. I just assumed they would like my '00 Grand Cherokee 4.7 (full-time 4wd). Now it's not a LOT of spin but at least one rotation, even chirps them at the track leaving the line.
Now understand I'm not trying to start anything here, but out of curiosity, has anyone run their 4.7 4wd Dak at the track and what kind of times have you seen? My Jeep has run a best of 15.63 @ 85 mph. The wife races it occasionally and so far, so far :), it's still stock.
In case you're wondering why I'm here, I also have a Dakota. You can see it at... http://www.dragtruk.com/ENTRIES/20KM1FD2KWBP.html
Thanks for any info you may have.
