Subject: G-tech -vs- others IP: Logged
Message: Well I'm thinking of getting a g-tech as I'm getting into doing some mods and I want to try and track every change. I can get a g-tech new for about $125 shipped, and this race technologies AC22 looks better, but would be $190 shipped. Has anybody ever tried the AC22? Is it worth $65 more? Or should I spend even more and get the one that can store and download up to 500 1/4 mile runs? I'm going to buy something before I get any other mods, and then put my truck back to pure stock and start again from there. Here is a link to the differences according to the race technologies guys

Message: the g-tech is accurate to .10 in the 1/4. if you just want at the least a rough estimate what effect mods have on your truck. the g-tech is verry hard to beat. no to mencion all the other stuff it does.
i dont think the other is worth $65 more.

Message: I don't know, it does have a serial port to be able to upload it all and a nifty case. I don't really care for how it's powered but I think I could deal with that. I agree the G is good for rough estemates and it does have that 30 day money back deal. Play with it and let your freinds play with it then send it back. I think if i was going to get one I would get off my money and go with the AC22. But I like things that hook to my PC.

Message: i bought a gtech when i got my r/t. the only bad thing about them is the windshield mount for it. makes very inconsistent runs if you take it in and out. i found that the best thing to do is mount it in the ashtray and leave it there. after i did this it was very consistent. all and all i am very pleased with it.

how easy were the lakewood traction bars to
install? I have a pegleg dak also, and was
hoping they would aid in my traction problem.
Thanx.

Message: The lakewoods would have been a breeze if the right bolts came in the kit a quick trip to the Ace hardware fixed that. The bumper on the universal bars ($27 at autozone) were a bit short so I bould a pair of SOS arm bushings and used a razor blade to trim them to size. Since then the wheel hop has disappeared. In may I'm planning to drop in a powertax no-slip in the diff. This is a real quick truck I don't know if it will help my best times, however, without it the times are in consistant. If I could consistantly run in the 14.7's i'd be happy (for now-heehee!)

Message: Here's another one for you to check out, Hersbird ...
www.tazzo.com
Works a lot like the Gtech, but you don't have to worry about leveling it and it stores your truck's weight so you don't have to fool around entering it each and every time you want to try a HP calc. The windshield mount looks to be a lot more stable than the Gtech's too.
I've been meaning to pick one of these up to replace the Gtech that collects dust in my console.

Message: blizzard, the race technologies ones are self leveling also, but they don't come with any kind of mount as they just basically need to be velcro'ed down or strapped in somewhere. The Tazzo one would be less though... You know you could probably get $100 for your used G-tech on ebay, they don't seen to lose much value there.

Anyone want to do a group buy on these :)!

Sorry Hersbird, I didn't look at the features of the Race Technologies one. Was just comparing it to the G-tech. Windshield mount is optional with the Tazzo too. Guess I'd rather have it anyplace than on the center of the windshield anyway! ;o)
I may go the Ebay route. Hadn't thought of that. May be able to sell it to a buddy of mine anyway. Thanks for the tip!

Message: The self-leveling feature on the Tazzo sounds great. That's the only thing I hate about the G-tech, you take the time to set it up and sometimes it stubornly refuses to stop tilting. I'd be up for a GB on the Tazzo.

Message: kota on 20's you should keep the g-tech for a while if you plan on getting a tazzo so you can do runs with both installed and see if the results are comparable. If not I see them go for $90-$120 on ebay, used, all the time.

Message: My other concern now is finding a good straight level stretch of road to do tests on. The freeway would be a good choice with it's 75 MPH speed limit, but it's across town and has more traffic. There is a light right by my house where the speed limit immediately after is 60 MPH, this would be perfect for 1/8th mile runs, but too many cops for a run to about 90 MPH (1/4 mile). I also want to get a accurate humidity guage along with a thermometer to keep track of conditions. Anybody know of any free weather correction computers online for 1/4 or 1/8 mile runs?

Message: I think the TAZZO has a feature that can 'almost' correct for unlevel roads,,,,inclines, etc. Seems pretty sweet.
I'm going to jump over the GB board, and see if we can get one going for the Tazzo.
For all those interested, make your self heard!
