Subject: New Dakota...Best Mods for $$$$?? IP: Logged
Message: Hello all,
I am new to this forum and to Dakotas, but I just went down and ordered my brand new Dakota yesterday. I have read many places that the 4.7 responds well to intake and exhaust changes and was wondering if anyone has any quarter mile times to support/prove the power of any of the good bolt-ons and their value in power per dollar$$. My truck will be an Atlantic Blue Regular cab 2wd Sport plus with a 4.7/5spd and 3.92 w/sure-grip. Shouldn't this thing run in the high 14's or low 15's stock anyways?? I think they are the best looking trucks on the road and I couldn't pass up the 7 year 100,000 warranty offered and the price of $17,300 total before the college rebate..
I am sooo excited, I can't see straight... I got tired of fixing all of my daily drivers all the time and not ever having anything nice.
Please respond with any quarter mile times and what was done to the truck to make it run those times....
Thanks everyone!!!!
P.S.-- as you can tell, I also LOVE turbos, so I might have to look into a speedtweaks kit later on if the money flows well-enough..
What about these engines?? Are they iron block or aluminum?? are the bottom ends strong enough to take a N20 shot or a turbo very well???

Message: Hey Man,
I've got a 2000 SLT R/C 4.7 5-spd 3:92's..
With a flowmaster muffler, and Lakewood traction bars I've gotten a best of a 14.8 @ 90mph.
The norm is 14.9 @ 89mph
Ran at a slippery 1/8th mile track this weekend, and got a 9.6 @ 74mph Did run a 9.55 but they posted a 99mph trap speed (WHAT???)
There are others out there with the 4.7's posting faster times.

Message: I meant to say there are more NEAR Stock 4.7's posting faster times. There are some in the low 14's with Mike Leech PCM, F&B TB's, CAI, IAT boxes, TPS adj. ,etc... The aftermarket is coming right on along for the 4.7's.
I would like to make mine a low 13 sec to 12 sec contender with A/C and everything else the truck came with. BYE BYE Lightning...
Good Luck with your new truck...Had mine for almost a year now, and still enjoying it every time I get in it.

Message: You could port and polish your tb for free. CW has about twenty posts on here on how to do it. Cash was pretty tight last fall so I went cheap. Took of the air hat got a 3" fernco elbow in its place. Dremeled the ALL the baffles and front of the air box after taking of the elbow and flap at the grill, placed a K&N drop in. Got some cheap lake woods (wheel hop was a pain on the pegleg). Really woke it up for under $100.00
The exhaust is pretty free flowing and most have reported marginal gains from cat back systems-the 4.7 actually likes some back pressure?
Next: (open check book)>>Powertrax no-slip, PCM, cams and ported heads.
Don't meant to go on but I just droped the sandbags out of the bed and got reminded just how sweet this truck runs!

Message: Dr. Q, where's he getting cams from? Talking about the HO cams? Anybody got any word on an expected date of release for the cams that KRC is working on? (i'm itchin to see some dyno numbers from testing) I just contacted level 10 last week about a shift kit. No such luck there. "give us a few months!" I figure by the time I get back to the states this stuff should be out.

Message: The cheapo lakewoods get the job done-ZERO wheel hop. They aren't a perfect fit. I replaced the bumpers that came with them with some SOS arm bushings and used a razor to cut them to size. The bump about 1" from the sping eye. So far after six months and MANY hard accells they are holding up pretty good.
I got some time to wait on the cams can;t wait to see the dyno numbers! But it only stands to reason that that is the next step. Finally get my licence in July and will be able to do some moonlighting for bucks.
I used to be in motor T maintenance management-Funny thing the jeep was a component of the radio?
