Subject: So how much money to get 600hp? IP: Logged
Message: Ok Well someone said I could get 600hp out
of my engine and save 500 pounds off the
Hemi 528. Is this true? And how much am I
looking at and still keeping it street legal. I
was thinking maybe 20 grand into my 97' V-8 5
speed. Also I said scratch the Viper engine so
either hemi or modified sotck engine what
should I look for with shocks, Rims and tires,
and other stuff. I am planin on traction bars
and maybe 10.5 tires on the rear. Lowering it
about 2 inches. What else am I gunna need
to do to my truck? Besides tyhe ovious stuff to
get the engin in there. And sorry bout the
typeing but I have big hands and I am on a
IMAC at work with the lil keyboard and no
responsive keys that you have to hit 5 times
before they work. Thanks alot for your time
any advie would be great.

Message: what would you possibly need 600hp for? Anything that maks that much powr is going to be a hobby car. It won't be very easy to drive or be very reliable. It will also probly break everything else in the truck.

Message: You will need a comlete fuel system replacement, a race-prepped automatic transmission, pretty major mods to the rear suspension, either a custom computer or a conversion to a carburetor, and a few other things.
Other than that, I'd make sure you have the two most important tools.... a pen and a checkbook.

Message: 2.02 R/T heads ported extensively ~$2K
A fairly aggressive Cam w/lifters ~$450
4 bbl. M1 intake reworked w/install kit ~$600
52mm TB $450
MP headers ~$300
3" catback including upsizing the cat ~$500
Paxton Novi 2000 or Vortech S/C kits preferrably intercooled ~$5K w/ a fabbed I/C
Split Second box for fuel and spark curve mngmnt ~$300
Return line fuel system w/upgraded pump $500-$1K depending on how you do it.
THmm, those are most of the hard parts. A bunch of misc stuff is left out and the pricing is "in the neighborhood". Can be done on a stock bottom end, buy you're pushing it and it's probably just a question of what gives first. Tranny and rear end may hold up, but tranny becomes a big ? mark.
BTW, that can get you to ~600 flywheel. Scott Q has already taken his blown 360 to 450+ rwhp(~540 flywheel) on a stock bottom end with a Powerdyne, but that's after a BUNCH of tuning.
Not for the faint of heart or someone trying to do it on the cheap. A blown 408 will get you there as well, but requires considerably more tuning once you get the motor in the truck.
I'm shooting for 425-450 rwhp myself in a reliable daily driver. There is no reason to think these trucks have to be built as weekend beauty queens with polished blowers that have no street manners. All depends on how you go about it.

Message: Try looking at a Mopar Performace crate engine. Mopartsracing has a complete 402 stroker 360 from Mopar Performance. The engine is rated a 435 horsepower, plenty for a street truck, plus it is running 9 TO 1 compression, so pump gas will be more than adequate. Think about it, 435 horses, new "not rebuilt" parts, and a warranty. What more could you ask for?
If you really wanted more (I think 435 horse is plenty), you could always throw some spray on it. I would only put a 100 to 125 shot on it since it is running hypereutectic pistons instead of forged. Now you're looking at 535 to 565 on the motor.

Message: First of all I would not bother building a Magnum engine if I were looking to have 600 HP , they are nice street engines but you need to step up to something a little better Take a look at the 408 build-up in Car Craft-March 2002 They used a junkyard 360 block , 4" cast crank , ported W2's, 10.6 comp ,.663 lift solid roller, and an M1 tunnel ram with 2 750 Demon's. It puts out 608 hp and 552 lb/tq , no blower , no nitrous and could probably be built for $8,000 if your starting from scratch.

Message: Simply not true, Rosario ! Your motor is not 500 lbs lighter than the hemi. And the stock rear would die a speedy death behind 600 horse and a manual tranny. Back to the drawing board !

Message: Don't forget a stronger trans, a 727 would be cheaper but if you want a stick a Jerico would be a good choice, If you go with the auto you could stay with leaf springs ,use Cal-Track's and convert to a beefed up 8 3/4. With a stick you would be better off having it back-halfed and use a 4 link or ladder bar suspension with coil-overs a Dana 60 , and a 14x32 slick. Also don't forget some sort of roll bar or a full cage will be in order to stiffen the chassis and for safety reasons.

Message: Your right I am all talk. For now. Ok I pick up an awesoem condtion 97 for 9k. Well within the next year and a half I am going to the money I got from my ORCL stock that I sold for over 40k that I had for 6 years. Whats so hard to belive if I can do this all with truck for under50k. That is not alot to spend on a truck IMO. BVut your right as of now I am all talk mainly becuase I dont truthfully know what Im gettign into and thats why Im asking for your help. Thansk alot guys. I was figuring on 20-30k for a rebuils chassis and stuff liek that. Also I want it streetable and reliable. So 450 would be bad at all. They also have the mopar crate engine with 510hp. Same thing as what you guys wre talking bout. So let me know what ya think about doing it or not or should I stay with sotkc eninge. Also I never said it was 500 pounds lighter I just said that someone on here told me that it would 500 pounds lighter to do it.
