Subject: Headers or Exhaust first? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 00' 3.9 and Im trying to figure which way is the better way to go about things.
Is it better to get Headers put in first and have my stock exhaust until i get a new one.. Or get the Exhaust (jba) put in first ?!
Or does it matter labour/cost/performance wise?!
thnx..

Message: neither. work on the induction system first. that will give you more torque (which trucks really need). i would recomend a k&n filter and throttle body

Message: I put my headers on before I put my muffler on that way it will give you an idea on which muffler you want to go with.

Message: I'd recommend going with a standard exhaust upgrade before headers. If you go with headers first, they will force air out quickly, but will cause some backpressure to return, and the exhaust will not get out quick enough. If this happens, your gaskets will blow VERY quickly, and thus shorten the life of your expensive headers.
Make your header installation your FINAL exhaust upgrade if you cannot have it all done at the same time. Go with a cat back first if you must.
