Subject: 2.5L TB info IP: Logged
Message: So far I've heard two things that can be done with the TB on a 2.5 - KRC does some custom porting work, and I've seen a couple of mentions of using a jeep 4.0 TB. Can anyone discuss in depth the pros and cons of going each way power and effeciency wise? Does anyone have either solution in place? How's it work?

Message: Thanks ripper_242 - It's a good looking site, unfortunately, it doesn't deal alot with my current issue, which is which route to take on the TB upgrade.

Message: 2pnt5ltrluv - I looked at that - notice I'm asking about it now:) - If I understand correctly, they're putting a stock 4.0 jeep TB on a 2.5L correct? I'm wondering what the advantages to that are vs using a bored TB from KRC - obviously the cost is going to be higher on the 4.0 TB - KRC will make your TB, ship it to you, you swap the old with the new, send back the old, and get your core deposite back - I think it ends up being about $200 - I also haven't seen anything firm on horse power. Both appear to have a reasonable gain, but then the only info I have from either is having talked to KRC and having read the web page you reference.

Message: Well, from what I could gather, the bored 2.5L t-body from Turbo City or KRC would probably be close to the same specs as a stock 4.0L t-body. If you went to a bored 4.0L t-body, I would imagine that the gains would be in the 10 hp range. TurboCity states that the Ported 2.5L T-body gives a 4-6 hp gain with stock engine, and the 4.0L would give a 6-8hp gain with stock engine. Based on this, I think that adding the stock 4.0L to the 2.5L engine will yield about 4-6 hp. Now when added to a bunch of different mods, a 4-6hp increase can be significant especially when adding an intake kit, exhaust, etc. TurboCity also states that if you change the t-body, exhaust and intake you should yield a 30-33 hp increase.

Message: Jeep 4.0 TB would be a better way to go in my opinion. It cost less and will perform equal or better than a custom one at KRC. The only disadvantage with the Jeep 4.0 TB is trying to find one in your area.
