Subject: iat relocation- more HP ? IP: Logged
Message: speedtweeks recomended moving your iat to your intake. I have a home made intake and it works great. I was just wondering if moving the iat will improve performance? Also will I get any check engine lights poping up.

Message: Yes! you should move the sensor to the intake tube. The air comming into the tube will be much cooler than the air in the intake manifold. The information the sensor gives your PCM lets it know when to advance the timing and add fuel. Cooler air=more fuel n advanced timing.

Message: there is one problem that i encountered...
the sensor has a pipe thread so regular nuts don't fit it. i just got a close sized nut and tightened it down hard and used loctite.

Message: I don't think the 4.7 uses the threaded style IAT sensor because of the plastic intake manifold.

Message: just go to the local home depot or lowes and look for pipe thread plugs... it might take a couple of tries to find the right size but you can return them... don't tightened down too hard because they are pipe threaded to plug the hole before it completely threads down.

Message: use teflon tape with the plug, and remember that the softer the metal, the softer you tighten it. Brass plugs and aluminum manifolds are both soft metals. Over do it and you may regret it....

Message: So will moving the iat make my gas milage worse? Since it will be making the fuel richer and advancing the timing. I think it would get worse mileage. Also what does putting a resistor in the line do?

Message: the wires that go to the IAT ,what matter color? you would unplug the sencoe and jump in your resistor, what i`d like to know what value resistor would = about 30 degrees,i guess that would be a good degree for rich performance? .,so remove your sencore and put it in the fridge ,then measure it with your ohm meter, jj ps when you gona try to jump out the speed limiter?

as for the speed limiter my automatic monitors speed in more than one place. so I'm still slowly researching.

Message: I'm so confused on how the iat works right now
do you mean put the resistor across the two prongs on the iat harness without it even plugged to the sensor? that doesn't seem right shouldn't I just wire the resitor inline with the iat signal wire. or does the resitor replace the sensor?

Message: well you dont want the iat adjusting anything, so it would be out of the curcuit. you would put the resistor in place of it. look at speed tweeks, iat adjuster, same thing its just a variable resistor.
I got the same truck as you 4.7 quad cab. 3.55 rears auto, & the 98mph limiter.yea its all a bit confusing, the book says one thing but under the hood its just a little different, like even locating the asd relay.

Message: The PCM uses inputs rom the IAT sensor to
calculate
-injector pulse width
-adjustment of spark timing ( help prevent
spark knock with high intake manifold air
charged temperatures
So your fooling the engine to run richer...
Is this worth anything? Well youll probably just
burn alot more gas. And long term effects? I
doubt there is any power to be gained there
unless your running a SC.
Maybe when your in the driveway and the truck
wont start youll be kicking yourself over that
mod.

personally I am in the process of developing a true cold air intake for the 4.7 I'd rather have real cold air then making the pcm think it;s cold.
