Subject: flowmaster muffler vs system IP: Logged
Message: I've been looking at upgrading my exhaust. I like flowmaster, but I can't decide if I should buy the complete exhaust or just buy the muffler, since it's single pipe anyway?
what does the cat back system give me that the muffler doesn't? also are the IAT adjuster's good mods?
thanks

Message: The kit gives you a larger tailpipe that's mandrel bent compared to using the stock pipe and just changing the muffler. Also a single tail pipe will make more hp than a split dual setup unless it's a true dual exhaust from the manifolds back.

Message: How does a single exhaust give you more ponies than a split dual? The split lets the exhaust out faster, so wouldnt that increase you HP over a single pipe??

Message: why do you guys like flowmaster? when I first
got my dak, it was like the household name
for exhaust, so like everyone else, I got one.
but just cause the name is popular, doesnt
mean the mufflers are good quality....They
offer no lifetime guarantee, the
welds(expecially on 4x4 applications) break,
flowmasters are assembled in Mexico and the
performance gains are really low compared to
other exhaust manufaturers.
If I were you, go with the dynomax ultra flow
race welded. Yes they are loud, (people say
they arent loud, it depends on what other
mods you have, intake, 3" pipe, headers, etc.)
Dynomax has a lifetime warranty on the
mufflers, and have some pretty impressive
performance gains.
you can listen to the sound of a 5.2 durango
with the ultra flow race welded, and other
sound bites at:

But I cant find anywhere that has this for sale as a cat back system for a (2001 v6 3.9) could anyone point me in the right direction? Or should i just go to a muffler shop. Im in NC so if anyone has any reccomendations down here hook me up. Finally anyone with one of these exausts on their v6, how do you like the sound? i dont want to sound like a rice rocket or anything...

Message: Dan-
Many people have debated this and a lot of it has to do with loyalty to a company label. We have personally run Dynomax, MagnaFlow, Flowmaster, Ravin, JBA mufflers and exhaust systems, and found that the single exit systems were slightly better than the dual exit systems...on the Dyno and at the track. The reason for this is that on a single exit system, the exhaust pulses don't fight each other on the exit.
They all sounded good, all performed much better than stock, and all had a slightly different price tag on them. Which one should you use? The one that sounds and looks the best to you. We all have different tastes when it comes to our idea of what sound good so base your opinion on the sound quality...not the advertised flow ratings or who sponsors what race.
A brief note on the advertised flow ratings of mufflers: Mufflers are rated on a Flow bench. This uses a regulated flow rather than the random pulses found in the exhaust stream which doesn't say anything in regards to the performance quality on street driven (or weekend racer) vehicles. So why buy a 1000+CFM muffler that you can see through rather than the chambered style? If you want to spend the money, like the sound, and own a race car (Bracket, Drag, etc.)...by all means, go for it. Just remember, just because you can see through it doesn't mean its any better than a chambered.
I got this from speedtweaks.net
