Mopar Muscle Aug.99
Adding muscle to a 318 Magnum - one part at a time. Pages 54 - 57.

Stock H.P. - 180@4000 rpm
Stock torque - 254@3000 rpm
Mopar headers.
Horsepower - 190@4500 rpm +10
Torque - 271@3000 rpm +17
R/T Magnum camshaft kit,MP 1.6 roller rockers,
MP springs and retainers,Red line fluids, complete
MSD ignition, Dynomax catback, modified ECU and 14 inch K&N filter with X-Stream top.
Horsepower - 225@4500 rpm +50 hp over stock.
Torque - 297@3000 rpm +43 ft-lbs over stock.
293@3500 rpm +60 ft-lbs over stock.

Thought this might be a good guideline for anyone thinking of using any of these mods.Also it kind
says something about a similar test HotRod magazine did with a R/T.

Two things:

(1) "modified ECU"...??? (You mean the Mopar PCM?)
(2) Last TQ figure...what is it applied to?

Almost forgot:

1995 Dodge Dakota SLT (5.2L/Automatic/ClubCab) - Richard Pyburn (Owner and member of the DML and Dyno tested on 3/24/01.)

262HP @ 4800rpm
301TQ @ 3900rpm

Powerdyne Supercharger @ 6# Boost, F&B Billet 50mm TB, JBA Headers, Gibson Cat-Back, Mopar PCM and Autolite 3923's w/180 T'Stat. Nothing else...no cam change, no MSD, no special fluids. (Under $4000 for everything.)

** This is just an example as compared to what the Mopar Magazine did. (All "Bolt On's" and can be done on a weekend with simple hand tools.) It's just for a comparison...nothing else.

Yes, ECU is a PCM, or a PCM is a ECU, I was just
using the same wording that Mopar Muscle Magazine
was using in there article.
The last torque figure is as follows :
Stock Torque - 233@3500 rpm
Final Torque - 293@3500 rpm
Equals + 60 ft-lbs of torque over stock.
Sorry if I confused anyone.
Superchargers make big time power,I won't argue that fact. But big power costs big bucks and I thought this article might help the average guy get the most bang for his buck.

ECU = Electronic Control Unit
PCM = Powertrain Control Module

Almost the same thing...

On the comparison....as posted, it's just that...a comparison. :)

Good power for a GenII. Bernd, Do you know if Richard has any pinging problems? I get just a little pinging around 3500-4000 rpm.

Is he running a K&N? Maybe you have his email and I can bug him?
