Ok so I pull up to light and there just happens to be a RC R/T in the middle lane so I pull up next to him and right as I roll up it turns green so hes says at the next light lets race...well I guess we couldnt wait, while going 40MPh he is right next to me and says gas it. I down shift into 2nd gear then 3rd then 4th going 110 in a 45MPH zone the whole time pulling away not by much but at the end had him by atleast a half a turck length on him. I have a RC 4.7 LSD with 3.55 gears and Exhaust thats it. It just feels good to be someone in a race with the same truck that paid $4000 more. Plus my tires are bald.

hmmm, i wonder how many hits this

their stories about "no replacement for
displacement" I need to buy my LS and take it
to the drags this summer, cant wait to see

Tonight at the drag strip, I ran a '02 R/T Reg. Cab.... Sweet blue color. I asked him to race, because I wanted to see how my STOCK truck would hang...
Well here's the scoop..
Me 14.9 @ 89
Him 15.3 @ 87 or 88
He had K&N FIPK & Lakewood Traction Bars.
I was shocked! We ran 4 times... I got him every time. I did red-light on him one time.
The 60Ft time told the story...
Me 2.0-2.1
him 2.3-2.4
Got to love the 5-speed.
He was real cool about it. Nice guy. I'm sure he's thinking about the extra DUCKIES he laid down for that 360 though.

Ohhh man you shoulda seen me tonite this 4.7 guy asked me to race tonite and I just laughed at him so we gunned it and I could see him tryin hard but I pulled 5 car lengths ahead of him!! It was a close race at first but I just pulled away. He told me all the mods he put into it looks like he just wanted to cry. Poor little 4.7 guy.

Not sayin they are slow, but I have yet to lose to a 4.7. notchlx, if the R/T woudl have had similiar 60'times, the table woudl have been turned by about the same amount on the e.t.s'. What were the trap speeds for both trucks?? That will tell the story of the race. My guess is the R/T had a higher trap speed.

Flame all you want... The 360 is a good motor. No question in my mind. They've been around since MOSES, but stock for stock, the R/T isn't any if all faster than the 4.7... I understand you wanting to justify your extra dough you spent. Now throw in an automatic on the 4.7 against the 5.9, the 5.9 will win...But the 5-speed ROCKS!

Need for speed what area are you from?..ill race you with my 4.7 and beat since no 4.7 has ever won against you. Let me also guess that you whoop on a lighting with your 5.9. I doubt that since I raced one about a week ago and got completly smoked(the only truck I have ever lost too).

Good to hear some of these stories. Clearly the RT at the drag strip didn't know how to launch. A 2.3 is spinning hard. If he got a 2.00 he would be in the 14's for sure. So I wonder what it would be like with equal drivers, in the case above I think the 5 speed guy launched better, as a result, he won! It also cool to know the two are so close there is no reason to get the 360 stricktly for perf reasons.

alright you cocky 4.7s listen up.... the 4.7 is a fast little truck but theres no chance of you guys keepin up with a 5.9 you might HANG in there at first, but once those extra liters start pulling, goodbye 4.7 remember the 4.7 came out pretty tricked out. not to mention they are dual cam. once you start doing work to the engine, same on the 5.9 and 4.7 the 5.9 will dawg you. all you will see is hazards in front!! and if anyone wants me to prove my point ill race you with my cc r/t 99. im in miami, florida

extra torque? horse for horse its practically
the same. 4.7 weighs less, lighter is always
faster (thats why I dont say anything about my
truck beating a RC R/T)
another thing...4.7 is SOHC not DOHC! if it
was DOHC, it would scream.

Rtfanatic360 how can you say the 4.7L will hang in there first and then when the extra liters kick in we dont have a chance? Did you read my story i was already going 40MPH then he said gas it..which he did I had to down shift to 2nd gear and still pulled away. This is a pointless subject to agrue with R/T owners all dakotas are awesome trucks but no R/T owner will ever admit that the 4.7 is faster because they paid $4000 more for a slower truck.

This is coming from someone who has had both engines.... and I traded my 4.7 for the 5.9. The 4.7 could nail anyone off the line, but had no high end at all. At the track my best time was 15.9 (with a .630 rt of the light)... my best time with the R/T is in my signature... I have yet to be beaten by anything made by dodge in this city. I'm not sore, just stating my experience *shrug* who would go 100+ in a 45 anyway ? I'm a speed demon and I dont even go that fast....

I kinda want to focus on the 100MPH in a 45. Lemme see; start>run>calc..thats 222% over the speed limit. Good job on that one~! Both of you need your trucks taken away if you were doing this with people around. That is VERY irresponsible of you BOTH. If someone was behind a bend or down/atop a hill, you would slam them so hard I would surprised if they lived -- or you for that matter. They can't see you, they don't expect to see a car doing over TWICE the speed limit.

I believe it is possible for a stock 4.7 against a 5.9, IF the person in the 4.7 KNOWS how to drive a stick, my R/T is my first automatic, and I can tell you it does hurt, if you have a good clutch in a stick, you can use it as a gear ratio and have some killer take offs. As for who's faster, who cares, they are both quick, but I like the "ease" of power with the 5.9, dont' have to flog it to make it do anything, just reaaal smooth, plus, add a sc to a 4.7, and to the 5.9, check out the difference there, same mode, way differnt resault, I agree with the no replacement for displacement, hence I have a 5.9, and love every ounce of my heavy engine, that added weight makes for some very quicks stops too.

I agree w/ Viper, test driving the 4.7 and 5.9 side by side I could tell the 5.9 could reach the higher speeds w/ ease where the 4.7 felt like U had to punch it to get up there. They are both great trucks Dodge has the best design out of any truck but I like the bigger engine, fatter tires, and it being lowered an 1" its just more fun to drive.

In Oct. I had to buy a work truck. I got a 4.7 auto
CC. I have a cousin that is always one upping
me. Two weeks later he rolls up in a R/T Auto
CC. So here we go again. I put a dynomax on
it and ordered a shaker hood from Proglass. I
got it all on and went looking for my cousin.
Well it didn't take long for him to shoot off his
big mouth, so we went out to settle things.
I expected to get beat. Being a Dodge Boy, I
kinda wanted that mean looking R/T to whip
my butt. Well we rolled across the intersection
and hit it. We stayed even up to 50mph and
then the roar of the open induction on came
on and I just pulled steady on him. He is so
pissed!!!!!

I live in AZ and it was a long straight road with no one around in front or behind us. I admit it was crazy to go that fast too, but I wasnt about to lose or give up I dont see that many R/T's around so when I get a chance I like to race them.
