Message: well then i dont know what to tell you because ive raced so many 4.7 stick and auto and i whip them ALL. it is close at first I admit but then my 5.9 just pulls on them nasty. like viper 6 said put a s/c on both the r/t will have a lot more gains. I think the 5.9 doesnt come well tuned from factory but if you free up some exaust add an intake and take off the cat (which I noticed made one of the biggest differences) you take off almost one sec. in the 1/4 mile. then its goodbye 4.7. and I would admit if one has beaten me but they just havent, and I have very little mods. so i dont regret spending the extra $4000. even though the 4.7 is a fast truck.. the 5.9 has so much more potential when worked on.

Message: i have never driven a 4.7 but, i know the power on the 5.2/5.9's drop off at about 4k on.
the biggest advantage a 5.9 would have on a 4.7 (if both are auto) is off the line, not at speed.

mods are available...the 360 is a dinosaur,
when they start making more mods for the
4.7, The motor will be just as popular as the
5.9 is.

Message: Last week I got the chance to drive a 4.7 auto for about 120 miles , both hi-way and city . the engine lacks low end pull and the trans is shift happy but smooth ,seems like it trys to stay at 3,000 rpm all the time.Compaired to a 5.2 the 4.7 has no 1500 rpm power so the trans lets it rev.Kota on 20s the 5.2 and the 4.7 run about the same 1/4 time with the same drive line. The fastest truck sold in '98 was a 5.2, SB , RC , 5sp , 3.90 LS , that had a 200lb advantage over the RT .But I would take the RT over a 5.2 or 4.7 5sp bacause the auto is easy to launch and better in traffic.I have raced four 4.7's in my 5.2 auto and they all got killed one even had a belt driven noise maker pushing air into the TB,the 5.2 loves mods.

Message: Once again, another one of these threads, and as always, started by a 4.7 guy. I just don't get the Dodge -vs- Dodge thing. I just plain love all Chrysler products, new and old. It's hard to get worked up over which Dodge is best, they are all best! That said the R/T is bester.

Message: I have the 4.7...I posted earlier about running the R/T...I never said that there was anything wrong with it. I just expected a little better performance out of it, considering I was running Bone Stock.
I don't care about racing other Dodges' as much as I care about whooping up on a Lightning. These trucks have major potential..and yes they (287's) love forced induction. If you don't believe that, drop a line to DUNER. I want performance that will dominate. Whether I do it with a 360 or 287 it doesn't matter...I just prefer having the 5-speed. And, I can't get that with the R/T.
Enjoy your R/T's (GOOD TRUCK), and I'll enjoy mine. I don't have anything personal against you, so don't get your panties in a wad. I'm in a mustang club, I have a 5.0....Does that mean I have to try to prove it's better than the 4.6? NO...I enjoy both.

I can seem to remember seein' a bunch of old posts from you (I use the search a lot) and it seemed like you had your heart set on a 4.7 for the longest time.
I do agee the 4.7L vs RT thing is old and I doubt it will ever go away. Insecure 4.7Ls and arrogant R/Ts, you all suck.

Message: It's funny how the 4.7 guys always get on and gloat about how they kill 5.9's left and right but in truth they are just covering up the fact they get whooped and don't want to admit it and have to cover it up w/ bogus "kill" stories just to make 5.9 owner's pissed. Keep the stories coming they're really funny to read.

Now i don't remember how this thread started (and i am too lazy to look) but unless it started as "ALL RTs Suck" or something instead of I beat "A" RT...then i can understand the bickering.... if not...than just congradulate him.

Message: I had my heart set on a RC Dakota. At first I didn't think I could convince the wife to buy into the added cost of the R/T and seeing as how a 4.7 5-speed was just as fast for less it was what I wanted. Then when we actually tried a RC 5-speed and realized there was no way three of us could ride in the front with the stick. It was down to an automatic RC or a 5-speed club cab, the fastest of all of these is the RC R/T and after doing some homework I realized it was not that much more after all, especally considering I found a used R/T more to my liking then I could order new. I do like the 4.7, but I really don't see any evidence that it is faster then a equally prepared 5.9. An average stock 4.7 5-speed, is a dead heat with the average stock R/T, and the fastest stock R/Ts are faster then the fastest stock 4.7 5-speeds. If I could have found a 2000 SY RC 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LS I would have been happy with it (just not my wife). I guess I was lucky to find one of only supposedly 5 R/T's made this way so close to where I live.

I found out today that my dog does not like my RC truck because it's a bit too small for him :( He's an old guy and standing up on his front feet for long periods of time hurts. Guess I might have to get a shell instead of a tonneau.

Message: What was the exact combination on those two pickups tested for the 2002 truck of the year article. The Trucktrends story doesn't say. The 5.9 was over 1/2 second quicker 0-60 which is somewhat surprising, but what was the weight of the two trucks, what was the transmission and final drive ratio on the two trucks? I'm surprised, usually they break down the results to give the specs on all the trucks not just the winner (in this case the Avalanche, YIKES!). I wonder if the similar article in the Motortrend would be more revealing. Then of course there is always the fact that the 5.9 in the R/T is more powerful then the 5.9 in the Ram with an extra 15 ft-lbs of torque. It is surprising that the 4x2 wasn't much faster then a 4x4 but without an exact comparision, with the only differences being the motor, it isn't very telling.

Then well see who the top dawg is. anyways what we should really be arguing about is those stupid lightnings who think because there engines are heavily moded and they come with a blower they are fast, well lets get an RT and S/C it ,then its goodbye Ford... do we all agree on that??
