Message: This is a funny one. This morning on the way to work, I playing around with aanother Dak. It was a '97 or newer, V-8, regular cab 4X4, with a tonneau cover and the 31" tires, the truck appeared and sounded stock. I don't know if it was a 5.2 or a 4.7. We were kinda racing between lights. At one light, we both nailed it. He pulled ahead by about 6 feet, and then the nose of his truck dipped, and I went by him. He didn't come even with me again until I hit the brakes for the next light. Apparently, he has a stick, and I beat him based on the shift.
My truck is a 2000 club cab 4x4, 3.9L, 31"tires, 3.90 gears, Auto, gibson cat back, JBA's, home built cold air intake, and a lot of extra weight.
The truck with me in it is about 5125 lbs. Thats the truck, added stereo system, toolbox with about 150 lbs of stuff, all the misc. accessories I have added, and my 360 lb butt.
I don't think I should have been able to beat this guy!! Was he just that bad of a driver, or does this sound reasoanble for about a 200 ft drag?? He came off the line like he knew what he was doing, then I took him. What gives??

Message: Of course "you" beat them. I'm just curious if he was a lousy driver or if my truck actually did the work.

Message: Came close to beating a guy driving an R/T, first time he kept it in drive, he beat me. Second time he tried shifting 1-2-drive, I won that one. He never believed I had a V6 though.

Message: I think your 3.9s may have done the trick. It is hard to shift a stick as fast as a auto. with the long shifter linkage.

Bob, it's true! You should of seen the look on this guys face. He didn't belive that I had a V6. I don't really think he new what he was doing. I did get beat by a kid in a 360 quad cab though, so that R/T did have something wrong ( I remeber that he ripped off the muffler because it was louder than stock, and I saw the pipe). That was last summer, I'm a little faster now (15.8 in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 in 7.4 was the best I ran last summer).

Message: Thanks Bob, I don't really think of it as a race car. Just my daily driver TRUCK, I am on a student budget. I did grow up with a fixed up 5.0 Mustang in the household, ever since I was at least 8 or 10 years old I've always known little secrets to going faster. Now it's time to apply those things I've learned. It may not be a V8 (like I want it to be) but I can live with 215-225 at the crank and 17-20 mpg's I get with my V6. And growing!
