Im looking for a 2002 dakota quad cab 4x4 with the V-8. Any experience on towing with this rig? I'm looking at towing a bass boat which probably weighs around 4,000 fully loaded. Thanks for your input.

I've got a '00 4x2 4.7L 5spd CC w/3.92's. I've towed a 20ft Aquasport Centerconsole fishing boat several times with it. It towed the boat like it wasn't there. Didn't spin the tires up the boat ramp or anything. Cruised effortlessly at 65mph on the freeway and still managed 14mpg.

4000Lbs w/ a trailer brake would be doable, IMO 5000 is pushing it. At least where I live. If you're in a flatter terrain (and not the Sierra Nevadas) it might be a different story.

Things to make damn sure the Dakota has:
Tow package
heavy duty package (cooling, battery etc.)
3.92 LS diff

I just bought a 2002 CC with all the HD upgrades they had to offer, I suggest get the 5.9L if your getting a QC, my 4.7L CC with 3.92's towing package, heavy duty service group and 5900# GVW, is rated to tow at 6000lbs (that's what the owners manual says). If your gonna tow, Get the HD service group towing package 3.92 gear ratio etc..
Go to 4adodge.com and build one up and take it to your dealer and have him order it the way you want it. you'll have to wait 4-5 weeks but it's well worth the wait.

I have a 2000 Regular cab 3.9L 5-speed 3.55 that I towed a loaded 5'9" Uhaul from Michigan to Florida with. It didn't seem to mind much, even with the mountains and the loaded bed. Gas milage sucked though.

I've got a 99 CC 5.2 4x4. I've pulled anything from 2 Sea-doo's to a 2 place enclosed snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds in it and one in the bed, a 28' Party Hut(thing is so big I could park the truck on it), and a 24' wooden chriscraft. had a little trouble with the 24' chris craft, but it was old and wooden.

93 3.9 4x4 pulls anything its hooked to but! She don't stop so good! pull a race car to the track thinking of putting air bags in the rear to pick up the rear end up a little to put weight back on the front end
