Subject: Ordered my 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: In six weeks I am getting my black Dakota regular cab 2WD with 5 speed 3.92 gears and no A/C. Got all the other interior and handling goodies I could. I almost bought the R/T a day ago but read what some 4.7 owners were saying about performance. I sold my 98 CC 4x4 5.2 to start building my street truck. I test drove an RT and was stunned. What should I expect the first time I take the boots to the OHC V8. What are the best mods to start with. Please don't say blower the truck is brand new and I want some warranty.
Thanks guys and happy trucking

Message: Go with the 180 T stat, and I use the Airaid cold air intake, along with Autolite plugs # 5224. Run at least 89 octane fuel, and when you get the money flow going, step up to a Jet Stage II module, works great.. also a cat back exhaust, i use Flowmaster series 50. I have done alot to my 02 quad cab 4x4.. I is very happy.MORE POWER...this is what it is all about, No?

Message: I would install HO cams a Drop in KN filter and maybe remove the third cat. The IAT adjuster would also be nice. Oh and remove that silly baffle from the stock air intake. A nice set of soft sticky dot aproved low pro tires. I prefer Good Year, Pireli and Yokohama's.

Message: Actually, what I would do is look at the fact that the post is from March of 2001. Then I would do a search on the 4.7 and see what everyone else has already done in almost 3 full years of modding......

Message: AM LOOKING FOR POWER ANYTHING FOR MY 02 4.7L 4X4 QUAD CAB. HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED THE STANDARD CAT/BACK EXAUST, COLD AIR INTAKE, POWER PROGRAMER, 180 THERMOSTAT, HEADERS, ETC. THIS IS MY FIRST DODGE AND AM SOOO DISSAPOINTED. THE HYPE ABOUT THIS "NEW " ENGINE WAS TOTALLY UNFOUNDED. POOR FUEL MILEAGE, AND LLOOOOW POWER IS NOT A GOOD COMBO. NO INFO REALLY AVAIABLE FOR THE RAM TRUCKS. WAS HOPEFULLY LOOKING TO GET SOME HELP FROM THE DAKOTA GUYS.

Message: MAYBE YOU SHOULD TURN OFF YOUR CAPS-LOCK AND DO A SEARCH ON 4.7 PERFORMANCE IN THE V-8 DAKOTA SECTION AND THE PERFORMANCE SECTION. THERE ARE AT LEAST 20 GUYS WHO HAVE HOPPED UP THEIR 4.7 MOTORS A WHOLE LOT AND ARE RUNNING REALLY GOOD QUARTER MILE TIMES WITH THEM......
IT'S ALL IN THE RESEARCH. AND THE CAPS LOCK.

Message: Take a look at KRC Performance. You're going to need one of their cams to get any serious improvement out of the stock 4.7. You'll lose a little of that wheel spinning low end tork, but my oh my what it does to the hp from 2500-5000 rpm! Unfortunately I completed my mods to late to test it on the strip this season.

Message: I know this thread is a bit dated, but what is this "Power Programmer" that BLU speaks of. I thought the JET Chip was the only thing 'available' for the 4.7's PCM?

Message: TexasTodd ... um .. ya .. I believe it ... I called both Hypertech and Superchips and niether one have a programmable PCM controller for the 4.7 DAK. What else is there? I have seen no living proof that the JET chip does anything, so I'd really like to get a handheld programmer. You know of one TT?

Message: Oh, and I'm NOT interested in sending my PCM away to have it flashed. This is my daily driver and I really like the idea of having it at my disposal every day .. and I would really like the option of changing the PCM program to accomodate trailer towing, regular driving, mud bashin, et cetera. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Yup, thats what I did, glad I did it. That and the HO cams are both great mods for this motor. I don't think there's any low end torque loss with the HOs, more torque everywhere.

Message: I just got my pcm back from Kenne Bell. They sent it back out the same day they got it. It was a total of 3 days. It is the best thing I have done to my truck. 3 days was no wait at all for the improvement that it made. Other than a cat back and a cool air kit it was stock.
Now my 4.7 can get rubber when going into 2nd gear
and I have a automatic. They say it will work even better with the supercharger I am now putting on. For the price I hope so. As for the every day driving, It only kicks in when you floor it. I also pull a ski boat with my truck and the extra horsepower helps. If you want the best of both worlds get your pcm flashed by Kenne Bell. (And they are not paying me to say that.)
