Subject: Hypertech power module from Summit? IP: Logged
Message: Has anybody heard any good or bad things about Summit Racings Hypertech power modules for the 4.7's? I found them in the Summit Truck Style catalog for $229.95, thinking about trying one, any thoughts?

Message: Before I got my R/T, I was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. (4.7L of course) I Loved that truck and could burn just about anyone off the line at any local red light... that engine has amazing low end... but about the end of 2nd gear.. it's done. I got the Jet II performance chip, and wanted to run it at the track to see how it did... but sold it before I was able to. So, I never got to see an actual difference on paper. I do know that the truck was considerably more powerful, and wouldnt shift at as low of rpm's as it used to. Also the vacuum lines made sorta a "whistling" noise. Sounded pretty cool

Message: Hypertech has a good reputation, however, modules don't. This is generally speaking because I don't know of anyone with the Hypertech module in a 4.7. I had a jet module in the past and it didn't help. Even gave me problems after about a year. Made the transmission act up. Had to remove it and throw it away.

Message: Yeah a web page would be nice. I talked to Hypertech a few months ago and they said they hadn't even started with the 4.7L yet. ASE does have a chip now for the 4.7L. The web page boosts a pretty good h.p. gain. Would be nice to have a plug and play unit like the hypertechs are though. Especially if it removed the speed limiter.

Message: ASE says their chip will give 26 h.p. and 33 ft/lbs. Thats pretty damn good. I'd rather have something that was plug and play though...even if it was a little more exspensive.

Message: Called Hypertech the other day **asking** them what the deal was!!! They said they are working on it but could not give me an ETA, could be weeks or months. I like the freedom the Power Programmer gave me on my 1996 S-10, I could switch for other tire sizes, top speed, etc.
Keep the ol' fingers crossed!!

Message: I had A chance to meet with the owner of Hypertech at A car show here in Tennessee.
After talking to him I learned that other chip makers usually increase the amount fuel and part throttle. Hypertech will run the test truck (or car) on A track and dyno, break into the computer and mess with fuel rates spark timing and rev limits to squeeze the most horsepower from the engine on 93 octane gas.
I have heard it to be recomended that, not to pull trailers with the aftermarket computers ( chips, flashes) I could melt the pistons, or something. Due to the engine set up for horsepower not torque.
anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Message: So when you met the Hypertech guy did he by some chance just happen to mention that he thought the 4.7L Dakota was a cool truck and that he was going suggest his techs build a programmer or module for it?

Message: Everytime I call and bug any tech guys I get the same damn response..."Uh...maybe in the future." Then I ask, "Any estimate on any kind of time as in weeks, months, years?" ...then they say "Uh...not for a while." Oh do I enjoy talking with techs.

Message: Sorry, when I talked to the owner of hypertech, the 4.7 was only A gleam in some enginier's eye.
If I remember right It was the first day the new body style corvette came out. Because he pulled up in A new red corvette straight from the dealer. 1996 ????I can't remember.

Message: CT:
I'm sure Hypertech has reports of what calls are received to monitor the market and where the demand might be, we just gotta show em by calling them a lot.
Take my 1999 Mustang 4.6 for instance. They FINALLY came out with a Programmer in late 2001 for it. Sold out at Summit. Gotta capitalize early or lose the market. I have no plans right now to purchase the programmer for my Stang, they waited to damn long, and I had other options.

Message: I have a '02 Dakota 4X4 4.7. Been scanning the posts here and it looks like we're screwed for anything for Hypertech for a while (although I plan to call and email to show interest.) SO... besides something from them, what other recomendations for more Horsepower do you guys have? I've already had a dual outlet (3") cat back Flowmaster exhaust installed and a drop in K&N filter.
Any other chips or modules anyone has heard of that are quality? (Sounds like there is some questions about the Jet Chips.) What about that ASE module someone mentioned? Sounds like it gives pretty good performance (26hp is quoted)... what's the downside?
Thanks for any info!
