the sho motor comes 220hp stock and that is detuned add intake and exhaust and the right ecu off of the cop car sho and your back you a 338hp the pro is the shos are all horse power and no toque so i think you need to take it to a track

Now Children, unless you have actually raced both the Dakota and the SHO you can't comment on both. I've owned 6 Dakotas (1-360,3-318's,1-4.7L and 1-3.9L). I've owned 2 SHO's. One was a 93-5spd and the other was a 95-automatic. A stock SHO will blow the doors off a stock Dakota. I raced a 2001 Ford Lightning with my 93 SHO and he only beat me by one car length. I was running a 14.1 and he was running a 13.9. The only modification I had on my SHO was the exhaust Y-pipe, K&N filter, and a piggy-back chip from super-chips. It ran a best of 14.5 without any modifications. It would hit 140mph anytime I wanted to. I didn't want to go that fast very often because it liked to fish-tale at speeds over 135mph. I didn't have a spoiler. The ones with a spoiler don't fish tale at 140mph. I own a 2002 Dakota 4.7L RC and it would require extensive amounts of modifications before it would hang with my 93-5spd SHO. Sorry guys, this is coming from a Dodge Man. I own a Ford because I like to go fast. I own a Dodge because I think they are better quality/value. Maybe Dodge will offer us speed freaks something besides a damn useless Neon SRT and $50,000.00 Ram SRT to brag about. Otherwise, I'll have to keep buying Fords for my performance needs.

Funny. A 1976 Merc Cougar would be the heavy BEHEMOUTH of a car dude! and ugly! Lucky to get a 351/400 Modified in that gas guslin' SOB!!!!
Not the fastest car. However, the car could probably tow a boat and smash many of people right off the road into a ditch... sometimes them big a$$ cars were safer compared to the recycled beer cans ppl drive today.

Hilarious stuff people. A 220HP 200 ft/tq, 3560 pound SHO with a 7000rpm redline engine detuned from its original 330HP Yamaha design, with a competent driver that shifts properly, bar none, could blow the doors off of any stock Dakota truck anytime it wants V8 or not. I own a '94 MTX. It can still run 0-60 in under 7.0 secs, goes over 140mph STILL and has 133K on it and the BMW part was too much. I love some BMW's but unless its a 540i or an M5 or an M3 it has no chance against any model year SHO even the V8 which has tremendous top end power and speed.
When I finish fixing mine it up it'll be somewhere around 350HP and if I decide to add a VortechSC to it it'll be right around 450HP with its Quaife Limited Slip to handle the added HP and keep the fwd firmly planted. I can and will run with almost(not every) any road car at that point with the upgraded suspenion, brakes, and tranny that's going on it as well. But you guys believe what you want. SHO's are true sleepers. They were designed specifically to be that so take on a 5spd or even a ATX with its 220HP and its 215FT/TQ and see what happens. The 5spd will wipe you all the way to 143mph and the ATX will wipe you to about 100 then stay ahead still til it hits 143.
Even my 04 Mazda 6 3.0 does a 7.0-7.2 0-60 and with its superior handling and traction control can out handle my SHO and it could beat a stock dakota V8 as well.It'll even stay with my SHO til about 125mph and thats only because its governed at 126. Take that governor off and it does 145. No stock Dakota would have a chance so theres no way a Dakota could beat a SHO. Not on this planet unless its beefed up with some serious juice to help it. Ford tested the SHO and made sure it couldnt beat the V8 Mustang and at first it could so they asked Yamaha to detune it and after further tests it was 4 tenths of a second off of an 89 GT Mustange which was 6.2
0-60. I owned a 91 GT as well that was just a bit faster than my 94 SHO but not by alot.Sorry no go on the dakota.
And the guy who said he almost beat a Lightning in his SHO. The Lightning was toying with you. They run 13.2 to 13.5's not 13.9's. He had room to spare. Good run though. Thats a truck that does 5.2 0-60's and also tops out at 143 although at a test last year by a race car driver they got a stock Lightning to 147. Not bad for a truck.

Sorry a lighting runs a 13.9 stock, with a good driver maybe 13.6 and for your SHO they also run low 15's just like the 91 mustang GT low 15's.The SHO's are nice but are not that fast.

well don't blame me for dragging up this post. but i do have to say i've owned four sho's and two dakotas. anyone of the sho's would spank either one of the dakotas, even the 93 auto which doesn't have the effect of the 89 to 91 with a 5 spd. the two 89s i had were REALLY fast. it's fine off the line but if you could sucker someone into racing from 20 mph, that car would pull like it ran 14 flat. don't put money on a race against the older ones like 1989-91 with a 5 speed. they were the lightest, only had 5 spds and therefore the fastest sho generation ever made.
