Message: I only copy and pasted what is on the Dodge Dakota brochure for the 2002 models. Also I question my dealer here in Florida and he confirmed the numbers. If the numbers are correct they added the power for the Quad Cab b/c of the added weight. It doesn't matter to me...I drove it...bought it...and I'm happy with it.

Message: Hey Handy, I beleive what you are cutting and pasting out of the brochure are footnotes. They apply to the the difference between the California and non-california 4.7, but the second note applies to the difference between the 5.9 in the RC and CC (the R/T's) and the 5.9 found in the Quad Cab (a non-R/T). So both the 4.7 and the 5.9 have two different power ratings but when they talk about the motors they use the higher value and then stick some footnotes down at the bottom where the average buyer never looks!

Message: Here are the flow numbers for the 68mm Stage I TB from Hughes Engines. I was the test mule for Hughes engines TB's.
Simply bolting on a stock 68mm TB will only give you an approx. 5% FLOW increase. Thats virtually no increase !
By FAR the best mod I have done to date has been the F&B 72mm TB. THERE IS NO comparison to ANY modified stock TB. The F&B TB is AWESOME!
I have since sold both Hughes engines TB's, and have been using F&B's TB's.
65mm TB (Stock) 632cfm
65mm TB (Stage I) 711cfm (13% increase over stock)
68mm TB (Stock) 664cfm (5% increase over stock 65mm)
68mm TB (Stage I) 760cfm (17% over stock 65mm AND 13% over Stock
68mm)

Message: Sure got quiet about the 68mm TB's ;)
I was pretty dissapointed after I spent $150 for the 68mm TB, and then found out it only flowed 30 cfm more than the 65mm TB.
One of the Mopar Magazines recently ran an article on how to "hop up" the 4.7L, and they claimed simply bolting on the 68mm TB would show an increase in power, however they showed no technical data to back it up.

Message: So just by doing a dremel job on the 68mm would you achieve that 17% over the 65mm? I can't afford the $410.00 for a 70mm TB but I can definitely afford the $165.00 for the 68mm.

Message: I can't say for sure if thats true or not. Simply taking a dremel tool to a TB is not how Hughes Engines went about getting a 13% flow increase.
They used honing equipment to "high polish" the bore, but the major increases came from reducing the throttle shaft profile, and counter sinking the throttle plate screws. They also do some minimal porting. They did all of these thing little by little. They'd bench flow it, then do a little more work, then bench flow again, and kept doing this until they reached a point where there was no more increase. The biggest misconception about bigger TB's is that a Higher flow TB is good, but you have to make sure your Velocity numbers stay up. A big ole TB may be able to flow 1000 cfm, but if it has no Velocity, what good is it?
My point is it'll cost a minimum of $160 for a 68mm TB, that'll get you a 5% increase. The backyard dremel tool porting job may help, or hurt the flow, depending who's doing the work and their experience. Unless you flow bench it, you'll never know.
