Message: o.k. i've read all post on the homebrew intakes and heat sheilds..well got me to brainstorming..i want all of you to give your opinons good or bad..ok first remove all stock intake eqipment..homedepot has a vent pipe its called B-vent..its a metal pipe (thin)but its a pipe in a pipe..the size is 4 3/4" outside pipe and 4" inside pipe..sraight and 90 angles..get the foam in a can stuff and 7"round heat and air vent pipe 3'peice and a 7"vent reducer 7"to4"..get a few rubber fernco fittings and a hand full of the radiator type clamps appropiate sizes for both..now you build the normal intake 90 at the tb with fernco, straight peice, then the 90 peice then a straight peice just enough to connect filter you connct all peices use clamps or fernco your choice..you want the filter to end up where the old filter box was..make sure it all fits good.now take it all apart..take the foam and inject the space in between the two pipes let cure..this insulated pipe alone might make a cooler intake..put it back on the truck leave filter off for now..now for the heat sheild part..take the 7"to4" peice 4" side put a clamp on it slide it on were filter goes put on filter..now take the 7" pipe cut to fit to opening at radiator. slide the two 7" peices together and use small sheet metal screws..this is a definite custom job.. but not to bad after all is tight and fits good take it all apart and paint with high temp paint..does that sound like a 400$ cold air induction system or a 80$ peice of junk..oh yea almost forgot check k&n for the new extreme cone filter its filter all over..so let me know what you think about it how much power you think..etc...etc...plan on doing this next week end!!i will post pics!!!later

Message: Careful with that foam - it expands A LOT. It could expand enough to buckle inner pipe causing a restriction. Homeowners regularly run into problems with this stuff, spray into cavity next to window, it swells so much window gets too tight to work right. The 7" section might be restrictive. Surface area of the filter might be greater than the surface area of the opening. Plus when the weather turns bad its all concentrated into the filter with nowhere to go if I understand you right. Don't mean to shoot you down - it's great to see someone thinking "Dodge different", just some stuff you might want to consider.
