Subject: 318 OILPAN IP: Logged
Message: I recently bought and installed a 318 long block for my 91 Dakota LE from a reputable, long time engine builder. It went well but I there is an oil leak at the rear of the engine. I drove it to the engine builder so he could replace the rear main seal as that seemed to be the most logical cause.
He says it's the OILPAN leaking because it's not the right pan for the new motor. The pan came off the original engine and seemed to go on properly but he says the arched seal areas at the front and rear of the pan are a larger radius than the main bearing caps on this longblock.
Is there a difference in the oilpans on some 318's?

Message: hey, i am not sure about oil pans, but there is some differences between magnum 318s and the earlier model 318s that came in mopar muscle cars. I am almost positive that 340s, 318s, have different end gaskets from 360s. the best thing to do is to call the dealership....lwt me know what you find out...
