Just curious...
Say I went out and purchased a RC 3.92 5spd LSD 4.7L Dak, nad then placed a Kenne Bell on it. Thats it stock everything else.

Then say i bought a ext cab. Tacoma 2wd 3.4L 5spd w/ LSD. And then put just TRD supercharger on it.

Toyota- approx- 265hp
Dak- approx- 300hp

Which do you guys think would be faster and which would be the cheaper alternative?

I think either one of these would be very inexpensive, and would easily beat all Camaro's and Mustangs. Just an idea.

Woah, that would be pretty close, it lighter than you are (you have 4WD), but I don't know. Go try it and see. Some 3.92s would help a lot also.

Not to discourage you or anything but unless you have a little more than 300 you will NOT even touch a camaro unless it a v6. the ls1's are pushin 310 or something like that and the SS's are pushin 325. I've read a few articles where the new ss are dynoing at 295-300 RWD. so 300 at the motor of a dakota not to mention tires and weight, and aerodynamics, you don't stand a chance

xplikt-i didnt mean my truck but a 2wd one. I am thinkin theoretically. If i was to go to a dealership today and buy one...
Clevite 77- I am sure if your to supercharge or even turbo like Duners, one will have more than 300hp. I was saying that number so I didnt come across as an idiot. I always like to be a little conservative abouot hp #.

I think if one were to place a turbo like Duner's on a RC, it wouls smoke pretty much most production vehicles.

The reason I brought this up was because for about $23,000 you could be running 12.5 in the 1/4. Guessing $16,000 for truck qand another $6,000 in parts. Assuming you can do the work yourself. Does this seem reasonable?

VERY reasonable. My truck was 17K and it's a 2002 RC 2WD 4.7L LSD 3.92 SLT+ 5spd. For about 6 grand you can get quite a bit. Supercharger or turbo charger with intercooler and stuff like that, full exhaust system, headers with the turbo, new ignition, new fuel system, intake...most of that basic stuff you need maybe even some nice tires, I bet you can get it all for under 6 grand. These trucks already run high 14s. The NSX only runs 13.5! Z28s and TAs are high 13s. But who's to say you'll ever find a stock one of those.

a tacoma s-runner with LS and a TRD
supercharger runs in the 13's. thats basically
lightning type fast. If youre gonna make a
4000lb dakota run in the 13's, your probably
gonna need NOS along with a supercharger.
I think mini truckin magazine has TRD
charged and put NOS on their S-runner, and it
was just as fast, if not faster than a lightning.
Plus my brothers s-runner was only $14,999
(2001 model) I wish my truck was as fast as
his tacoma, but I would rather have a good
lookin/sounding truck than a tacoma. Mine
sounds mean, his sounds...well, like an
import.

They had a new 4x2 RC v-6 5-speed truck on the lot down here last month for $12,300. How much is is the v-8 upgrade? About $700 right, so the basic package can be bought for $13,000. (that even had $800 worth of a/c that could be dropped) I think by the time you got up to the $23,000 price of a base Z28 or the $30,000 an SS or Lightning cost you would be smoking then easily. I'm sure you could do it for about $6000 in mods for a total of $19,000 spent. It's by far a bigger bang for the buck then anything else you can buy.

D, what are you talking about? You do not need any form of nitrous. Duner here has gotten his truck in the 12s with his home brew turbo.

The Dakota was THE FASTEST 2002 vehicle I found, with the cheapest insurance and cheapest cost. The Tacoma is MORE in insurance and inital cost. I was also right next to, two of the top dealers in the nation and I was very sick of Toyota's dealers.

duner has an R/T, with other mods....a stock
tacoma w/charger and LS is in the 13's.

Xplikt...I dont know what model dakota you
drive, but next time you see an S-runner on the
street, give him a little rev, and hold on. If he
has slight mods (exhaust, intake, etc) you
might think twice about racing another
tacoma. I wont race another one till I at least
buy headers and a turbo charger. My club cab
sport might just be way slower than a regular
cab 4x2 5spd dak, but either way, those tacos
are light and quick, plus if you see one on the
freeway, you better have a higher top speed
than I do :( I would never buy a toyota truck,
dont get me wrong, I love my dak, and will
keep on challenging my brothers truck (65-
100 mph mine is faster) but I give credit where
credit is due. tacomas are fast and light. just
ugly and import sounding.

D- Pull your head out of your ass..

xplikt has a RC 4.7L 3.92 5spd with a LSD. He will win against even the S-runner. His top speed is also 117mph since he has a 5spd.

Anyways Duner's truck is NOT and R/T. He has a CC 4.7L 3.92 5spd 2x4. he added R/T suspension and R/T wheels and fender flares. So maybe you should do some more research. Sorry couldn't resist. xplikt, go race a S-runner and be happy to know youll take him.

THANK YOU Crusty!

I would love to go race ANYTHING right now, but there is a lot of ice at the time. My town is a big skating rink! And I have to find an S-Runner, and then hope it someone younger that will race.

Here we got mostly: Civics, Accords, very few Z28s (no LS1s to race, damn I love the LS1!), Talons, Eclipses, old rusted beater hick type trucks with large engines and flowmasters. I saw an older R/T Dakota once. A few Durango R/Ts that the yuppies near the mountain (skiing) own.

It's really not that diverse. The Accords and Eclipses make up the mass majority.

Duner ran 12.7 with his turbo and no intercooler. Lets also take a peak at the Dak's vs Taco TQ numbers. I bet the margin really widens there and that makes up for the extra weight.

I bet with a reg cab Duner would be shooting for low 12's. This crushes Camaro's SVT Cobra's and L's. It's beats Honda S200's and even early Vipers!!!!!

Duner has put to rest all the crap that the Dakota's weren't meant to go fast and have no buissness being compared to sports cars. I bet Duner still even with the work done has spent less than you would on a new Stang or Camaro and really relishes killing them with a pick up truck. Me and another guy up here in Vancouver are also looking at a turbo set up and have got a guy that will give us a good deal if we do both at once.

MOPAR SOHC V8 + turbo kills almost everything. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers Duner pots down with his water to air intercooler.

Hey guys just wanted to tell you that i have a 2003 pre-runner taco and was on the toyota site looking over some s-runner times with the super charger and nitrous. One guys is running 11.8/118 with supercharger and nitrous on his taco s-runner. I for one didnt want a s-runner though because they sit to low to the ground and i wanted to get a automatic and i think they only come in 5-speeds. I love my 2003 prerunner though and wouldnt trade anything for it :-). I think a 4.7 5/speed dakota with 3.92's would kill a stock taco if it didnt have the supercharger on it........if it does than that is another story
