A co-worker of mine drives a '98 Dakota Sport V6 with the factory 15" wheels. He is currently running P215/75R15's on it now (which i believe is stock). He is interested in running P275/60R15's on all four, but he is worried about clearance up front. Has anybody here tried this combination?

I would say no clearance problems espically on a 4x4. If it's a stock 4x4 then it still should be ok, lots of R/T guys run a lower profile 275 tire on the front even with a lowering kit. The durango R/T uses a tire bigger then that from the factory and although it's a 4x4, it's not much higher then a stock dakota 4x2. The other question is if he has 215's then he probably has the 7" wide rims, will those take a 275 tire?

His truck is a 4x2, and I do believe he has the 15x7 wheels. I'd really feel sorry for the tire guy that has to mount those. I'm personally trying to talk him into a set of 255/60R15's (which are still probably too big for the wheels).

275-60 on a 7in. rim.your asking for trouble.255-60 is really stretching it.

I'm running 275/60s on my 15x8 wheels. My truck is lowered 2"/4" and I don't have any significant clearance problems.
But, like the other respondees, I see real problems with fitting those tires on 15x7 wheels. Can you say explosive decompression?

When you say 15x8 wheels, are talking about the factory ones that look exactly like the factory 16's? If so, I found a set on Ebay that i'm trying to push him to pick up.

Yeh, the 15x7's are kind of ulgy IMO. I'd have him look for a set of the 15x8's which should be available for $50-$75 each. Or look at some of the aftermarket wheels.
