Message: I have done the themostat, and it was a pain. The housing is down low next to the water pump so leaking fluid is inevitable. I recommend let your truck fully cool before changing parts, because on top of cuts and busted knuckles, nasty antifreeze burns just suck. Also, make sure you purge the coolant system after installing the new stat, otherwise you will over heat. I reinstalled it 3 times before I figured out what was wrong. Good Luck.

Message: Haven't heard of anything in the way of an adjustment but a full intake tube from the TB will help a lot more than just a drop in filter. Speed Tweaks should soon have a 72 MM TB soon which should offer significant improvmnet but will be pricey I'm sure.
What's sort of set up do you have with yours.

Message: actually the T-stat I found wasn't too hard, well that is after I realized how to do it. I will admit draining the fluid is kinda a pain though and the bolts retaining the lower rad was awkward to get to but other than that. any mech. could do it. Are there any intake manifolds out yet?

I ACTUALLY CAME OUT A LOT CHEAPER THAN HE DID ($60). WELL I WILL TELL YOU GUYS LATTER ABOUT HOW IT RUNS. THE BEST THING I LOVE ABOUT MY TRUCK IS THAT I CAN F***-UP A STOCK RT.

Message: Let me give some insight.... I have a 2000 RC 4.7 5-spd with the 3:92 L/S rear with 4,200miles. It is BONE STOCK!!! I took it to the track in Jackson S.C. this summer. In 92 degree weather, and sucky humidity, 3/4 tank of "89" gas, spare tire remained, it went 15.338 @ 88.83mph with a ....2.30 60ft. Traction was a huge issue. You can tell by the 60ft. I only ran it twice that day. Same thing both passes. I had to leave at idle. There is definitely a lot of potential in the little truck. I have plans to sell my '91 LX Mustang to buy a PRO-CHARGER for it. This truck with some traction and some more oats under the hood, will be bad. I have just ordered a roll-pan, tonneau cover, clear tails, hood scoops, and rims for it. When everything is painted and installed, I'll start on the performance end of things. 72MM billet TB, Chrome Long-tubes, Dual 2-1/2" flowmasters, custom chip, ignition, etc... AND 11psi of inter-cooled BOOST!!! Can't forget about traction, AIR-RIDE ( I have to do some research on that) If anybody knows of a suspension set up that will hook hard on drag radials, but give a good street ride, let me know. The truck only has a little over 4,000miles on it... Don't want to ruin it, by slamming it and tubbing it.
Let me know if you live in the Aiken SC- Augusta GA area.... We'll hook up. Drag-strip, cruise, run circles around bow-tie boys, etc....

Message: Come up to Atlanta Dragway in Commerce. Go east on I-20 to Hwy 441 north. Thru Athens up to I-85 (should take an hour unless you stop to look at the sorority babes in Athens). After you cross I-85, go left at the 2nd lite, take the first right on Ridgeway road. Track is about 1 mile on the right. Can't miss it. Season starts in March with an all-day Test & Tune two weeks in a row. See you in the spring.

Message: Although I don't have a Dakota I was very interested in reading all of the posts. I read about several modifications but no one seemed to mention superchargers or NOS. Do any of you know what a Dakota would run with either of these?
Does anyone know if taking of the speed limiter affects in any way the performance of your car?

Message: One time I took the speed limiter off and held it out the window and it flew oout of my hand. I think it landed in a ditch and I never found it again. Officer Mike Leach arrested me and fined me $500 for leaving my speed limiter behind and said "Boy, step outta that ugly-a$$ truck. I'm gonna burn your PCM so hard, it's make even ME cry!!"
So, what I'm sayin is, I'm no mechanic here, but with a top-fuel nitro-charger and no speed limiter, it should top out at about 100 mph. Maybe 104 mph with a tail wind.

Yep. Serious. And the worst part was my Dad. He was like "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop driving that Hot Rod Lincoln." Then there was this guitar solo out of nowhere and then I said "Dad, it's a Dodge. Not a Lincoln."
And he was like "Dude, Whatever."
I was like "Kiss my a$$."
And he was like "No."
So I said "Okay....."
And then I put my hands in my pockets and slouched off into the distance and spit on the ground.

Message: Hey guys, we took a buddy of mine's '00 RC 4.7 5-speed with 3.55s to the track last friday night. It was basically stock except for a custom air intake tube, a custom pcm and a set of 28x11.5 ET Streets. That thing went 14.35 @ 91.91 mph with 1.90 60' times! I think I've about got him talked into going for some exhaust work and a F&B TB. It would be awesome if he could be the first NA 4.7 into the 13s!
C'Mon Matt - You are so close already! Take up the challenge..... be the first NA 13 second 4.7!

Message: Hee hee, Oh so tempting Duner !! I sold my slicks back in December, so traction will be a problem!
I did however run a 14.4 on street tire back in October, so there is still some hope.
That was one helluva good pass your friend made, for a 3.55 truck, and stock with slicks. That 1.9 short time did it for him. Its hard to get those 1.90's , unless you have a kick ass track. The 1.88 I did at VMP is what did in my rear end :), But what a kick in the pants 1.8's are !!!!! yeeeee haaa!!!
I tried VERY hard to break a 13, but its just not there, I need about 15-20 more HP, the 14.2's I ran were perfect conditions, perfect shifts, perfect launch, everything was just right. 100% effort, I did'nt leave anything on the table, I used it all, and then some ;) he heeee.
Seriuosly, some serious exhaust work, maybe a fan belt by pass, remove the clutch fan, that would have been very close to 13's.
After the Hughes cams go in, we'll see what happens........ Doh, did I say that...... ;)

Message: Man, I'm not sure I can answer that one about the best exhaust mods for the 4.7. All I know is what worked and didn't work on my truck. I've never even seen a 4.7 with headers on it. The removed cat should work quite nicely. Followed by the hiflow cat. I don't really know which is better between the 3" and the 2.5" pipe. My guess is the 3" pipe if you have enough air coming into the engine.
I tried talking my buddy into letting me take the fan off before we went to the track.... no go. Oh, and his truck is lowered with the Hotchkis kit since he autocrosses it all the time, so no real weight transfer there either. The track prep had lots to do with that 60' time for sure. I think that was the best I ever saw Firebird hook!

Message: true, I wish I could hook up a 3.55 with a peg leg doesn't have much grip and too much wheel hop if mot launched perfect.
by the way you were right about a pcm adding torque now if I stomp it off the line I leave a cloud of smoke. it's great. and the kenne-bell was a lot cheeper then the rest.
I have kenne-bell pcm, homemade intake and a heat sheild completely isolating the filter from engine and back side of the radiator, and a ported tgrottle body. I want exhaust but I saw from your post on mopar chat it slowed you down and almost stock was your fastest setup, but I also saw how much power your 3inch cat added so i will probable remove it soon, just need to find a willing person who can weld. are our o2 sensors bosch four wires or 3 wire.
