Subject: Bernd maybe you can help.. IP: Logged
Message: Hey I am trying to see if anyone can help me out with this little issue. At the moment I have a 4x4 gen2 dakota that is going to have a downstroked 440 in it. (yes another BB dak) Anyways, I'm wanting to change this one to be 2WD and was wanting to keep the torsion bar suspension up front. I like the way this suspension rides with the big engine up front. Do you or anyone else know if the 2WD spindles can mount to the 4wd control arms? I know I will have to change the rotors, etc and I already tore out all of the 4WD components. Can anyone figure out a way to keep my torsion bars? Thanks for any help.

Message: One question if you are going to destroke a 440 why not go with a 400 they only have a stroke of 3.38"? Just a thought. Easier to find as well.

Message: 400 is lighter (not as tall as 440) stiffer block, and you can use a turned down 440 crank to bring it up to 451 if you like.need custom pistons and a little clearancing to the block where the rod bolts could hit. If you're going to kill your handling with a big block, might as well go wild.
