Message: I have owned both and have not had problems with either, the trans on the 318 4X4 is the same as you would get in a 3/4 quarter ton Ram (not the V10) the 2WD trans is similar but they tell me not quite as stout parts inside. The Multispeed on the 4.7 is supposed to be the same as they are using in the new Rams, but I havn't confirmed that. I tow a LOT (am in the boat business) and like the new trans much better, it has better gear ratios, is much better merging and passing, and is happy towing up to about 6,000 lbs. There is of course NO comparison between the 4.7 and the 5.2 engine, the 4.7 is faster, smoother, more economical, and has a much broader useful RPM range.
