Subject: Spark plug test on a 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone done a spark plug test on the 4.7l?
I know everyone here says to use the 39, but has anyone tried the different Plat., and titanium, and such. I think Bernd is trying an iridium (think I miss-spelled that). Just looking out for the most HP for the buck, before the fist plug change. I am coming up on 13k, so no hurry.

Message: Hello, I installed the Autolite Platinums for 15,000 miles and when i took them out they were great. I liked them. I installed the Autolite 3923 plugs and it runs fine seems to be the same, the diff is platinum lasts longer so you wont change plugs as often, but Copper plugs the 3923 conduct electricity better.. Personnally i would use the Platinums.I will install the Plats come spring. Caution/ when installing new plugs use anti-sieze compound on plug threads, little dab on plugs befor threading in hole, prevents cross threads and easy to get plug out later, always use anti-sieze when installing steel into aluminum.. plug gap is .040 on the 4.7 motor.

Message: (Skeletor) Have you PRICED the Denso Iridiums yet?
The Bosch +4 (recommended plug for the 4.7L V8 hemi) is about $50 for 8 of them.
The Denso Iridiums would be almost $150 just for the plugs!!
There is NO WAY that the Denso Iridiums can burn your fuel any better than the Bosch.

Message: Some said that the Bosch +4 performed worse in the 4.7l. I did not say I was going to buy them yet, I thought I saw a place that had them for $12 each which is only $96. I was just asking to find out what anyone thought. Bernd says in one of his threads he is trying them, but I guess he makes the big bucks.

Message: (Skeletor) I have one of the "early" 2000 dakotas with the 4.7L V8 hemi. When the time came to change the sparkplugs, I did a lot of research. I reviewed over 1000 posts in at least 4 different websites.
(Keep in mind that doing technical research is also part of my daily JOB)
After taking several pages of notes and compiling all of the data.... I found about 4 "commonly used" sparkplugs that folks have used in the 4.7L V8 hemi.
By *FAR* most folks with engine knowledge liked the BOSCH +4 for this engine. Although the Denso Iridiums were mentioned a few times. Even Dakota drag-racers said they were only really an improvement with a blown engine (compressed intake charge)
When you say that the BOSCH +4 is WORSE, you may be confusing with another engine... There is no question that another plug is desired in the 1960's-based 318 and 360 engines.
DO NOT FORGET THAT BOSCH *INVENTED* THE ORIGINAL SPARKPLUG... everyone else has been playing catch-up ever since ;-)
