damn, I wonder how much...I was at the LA
auto show today, and they had some tricked
out ram w/ 23" wheels, lowered, but it was a
4x4...wasnt much for power though, it only had
the 4.7...guys at the show said R/T in 2003 will
definately have the 5.7 hemi (yay) Tradin in my
01 as soon as it comes out. I have to say
though, the nicest lookin truck at the show
was the ford lighning with flamed seats,
flamed headliner, and flamed leather tonneau
cover...it was concept only cause it had
nothing underneath the body, but if it becomes
a production truck, that new ram will still have
competition as the fastes production truck.
Also, Chevy had a dope SS silverado, with a
C5 rearend, 6 speed tranny, and 500
horsepower motor, its basically a corvette C5
with a tricked out silverado body and
suspension.
how come when I decide to spend money and
buy a new truck, a newer faster one comes
out?

They are all cool concepts but I wouldn't hold my breath for them to come out at anything resembling affordible (under $30,000). We will probably be lucky to get the next generation Dakota with a 5.7 hemi for under $30,000. And none of this stuff is readay anytime before 2004 so just enjoy what you got. Concepts look cool at the shows but by the time they hit the street they end up looking more like a Chevy Extreme! I think insurance companies are going to have a feild day with 500 hp Rams and Chevies pushing 5000 pounds around to 60mph in 5 seconds. Unless they cost upwards of $45,000 to keep them out of the hands the average unappreciating yahoo.

I just can't see the new RAM being a Hot Rod truck! It just looks too big and has too much frontal area. I can't imagine what the drag coefficientcy is on that monster. Either portray the ram as a tough work truck or a racy sport truck. Now if the Vipers 450HP only gets 11 miles per gallon just think of what the 500HP pushing a heavy brick threw the air will be ;) 5MPG? It's just my thought. At least Dodge is trying for the sporty segment too. Better to have it than not.
I just would like to see a Dakota with a monster engine like that! The Dakota/Hunter or Dakota/Predator!

Hersbird, you just had to destroy the mood, didn't ya! Heh, my guess was that ram would be around 35K base price.

I couldn't imagine what my insurance would be for something like that, I would saw screw them and say it's a regular ole 1500.

Thats gonna be pretty lame if the 5.7L hemi is way over priced. The production costs for the hemi are supposed to be lower than for the 4.7L. Don't remember where I read that.

thats why they produce a new motor, to
replace old motors (5.9) I doubt it will cost any
more to buy a new R/T in 03 or 04, just like it
wasnt any cheaper to buy a 4.7 dak than a 5.2
dak....most cars at the auto show have really
low sticker prices considering all the speed
and style they are adding (mini cooper S) only
19,000! (dodge neon st-4) 19,000 (i think)
anyways, my point is, unless the car is full of
leather, navigation, giant wheels, and wood
trim, it shouldnt cost too much. Anyway, the
lightning cost 35000+, so why wouldnt dodge
try to make the ram considerably cheaper to
out-sell the lightning????

CThomp I read that too, because it'll only use 2 valves per cylinder and the way their redesigning it it'll cost less to produce and because its smaller than the 5.9. They said the new 5.7 hemi is supposed to produce 350hp. Now thats what the 5.9 should've been all along.

I think that rated guess of 350HP is down to 330HP.
Also I don't remember Ram's costing close to 18K starting out for a Reg Cab Short bed V6. A nice decked out V8 Ram with Leather and big rims quoted a price tag of 28K now subtract 2-3k for the V8 and add another 12-14k for the v10 and another 2k for a better tranny and some more for a lowered stiffer suspension and your looking to pay around 42-43k easy.

I like these rims better. Skeletors posted picture make the rear end look like it raised due to the incline. Watch out He-Man going to get you.
