Subject: NOS - Nitrous IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone is running NOS in their trucks (V8 or V6). What kind of gains are we talking about and what kind of modifications are necessary to get hooked up sweet? Is there any danger to your engine when using it? How much does a good kit run you? If anyone has got some input, it would be nice to hear some opinions.
Peace out!

Message: Every now and again there is a NOS sys on E-Bay for under $500.00
Unless you do alot of racing I do not suject it. It is not for the race from a red light down on main street. And unless you use it right you could do alot of damage to the eng. There are alot of mods you can do to your truck to give it the balls you are looking for. If you plan on racing good luck in the NOS dept. But don't do it just to say you have NOS. If I sound concerned it is only cause someone I once worked with put NOS in his Honda. He did not know the proper way to use it and the safety and dangers behind it. His Honda is beyond destroyed on he now has a Honda sticker on his wheelchair.

Message: I have to agree with DakAttack. Do not use NOS unless you know the proper way to use it and are doing it for real time racing. I had a friend that had installed NOS in his Civic. I watched as his car exploded coming off the line. I visit his tombstone every month on the day he died now.

Message: i have nitrous on my 2000 4.7 and love it. though i would suggest only using it on the race track but its fun to purge while at a red light my system is a nitrous works kit and i paid 450 but after all the acc. it came up to around 1200 (instulation, purge, heater, gages, tax)if you use nitrous make sure it has a "wot" switch which will only let the nitrous go into the motor when the throtle is wide open i have a 100 shot and i dog mustangs and run neck to neck with Z28's with poor traction i ran 9.49 in the 1/8 and cant wait to run the 1/4

Message: There is nothing wrong with nos. just make sure it is done right. Timing and fuel is key. Its actually pretty fun on the street. I went from a 14.7 all motor to a 12.9 on a 150 shot. As for cars blowing up, nitrous is not flammable it is under pressure but not flammable. If you learn about it install it right , you'll find its the best mod you ever did. Those who like tried it, those who don't havn't or got beat by it.

Message: Actually bud, NOS is just like Oxygen when under pressure. Extremely flamable. Same goes when you press your little button to feed your block. Its in a liquid/gas form when it hits the block and if a lead breaks on the hose, guess what. You will be the same as my friend.

Message: Just because it says Non-flamable on the bottle doesn't mean a thing. If you check your history, NOS have found a way around the rules. Some crap about the heat temperature of the fire, and it being so high that the possibility of it exploding is minimal. But under conditions, yes the bottle can blow.

Message: I just installed it on my truck and I love it. As far as the bottle exploding, I'm sure thats possible if you don't take the proper precautions. Stuff like a pop off pressure vale to release excessive pressure to keep the bottle from exploding. Nirami you are pretty close saying that NOS it like Oxygen, but you are WRONG saying that it's flammable. It does however increase the combustability of flammables just like a high concentration of Oxygen. NOS ALONE will NOT burn.

Message: As far as I can remember, there is a little sticker on the side of the bottle that says Oxidizer. This means it adds one of the three main components needed for combustion. Air, fuel, and ignition. It basically adds more oxygen to the combustion chamber, thus the need for a fuel solenoid to let in more fuel. Otherwise, you'd go EXTREMLY lean and oh, say melt a few pistons, blow a head gasket, burn your valves...that sort of stuff. So yes, if you get the bottle too hot and conditions are right, it can explode. But if you look at the first people to use NO2, (NOS is a brand, not the Nitrous itself), they used to take medical grade NO2 and run a line to under the hood, and open the valve when they wanted a boost. The open air cleaners that used to be run would suck in the NO2 and give a little boost, typically around 25-30hp. This was usually enough to beat the guy in the next lane.

Message: I never said that the cause of my friends injuries was from the bottle exploding. He was racing a Vet. The Vet was winning. He hit a shot of NOS. He was not experienced in racing that much. The extra boost of speed made him loose control. Hit the back quarter panel of the Vet which made it turn infront of his car and go up and over. His car then turned ond flipped 6 times forwhat the cops said. Threw him out of the car. (No seatbelt-dumb but saved his life) The honda rapped around a telaphone pole. And yes the fire from the car cooked off the NOS. I heard the explosion from about a 1/4 mile away.
What I am trying to say is. If you want NOS. Make sure you have alot of racing experance first. Take the lost race as experance and get the MODS done for better speed and proformance. Then when the NOS is added you can take on the fast boys.

Message: So to some up this whole thread. NOS is really cool if you know how to race and how to set it up correctly. If you don't and you don't...then you get hurt, dead, or blow up your motor.
I think I'll invest my $1200 somewhere else.
