Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated... (my plea is duplicated on a string by CThomp)
Here goes....

I just,,I mean just had a brand new Westin push bar installed on my 01 CC 4.7 like an hour ago. On the way home I decided to become more involved in my 15 yr. old bro's life and let him kick it on it the drive way. (Don't down play drive way,,,it's at least a qtr mile long). He's doing good, and then for no apparent reason,,,nothing out of the ordinary was going,,,, I guess we didn't work on the whole braking thing toooooo well,,,,,,,,he eats our closed gate. My brand new truck/grille gaurd eats out brand new gate. Nobody hurt (yet),, the push bar saved my bumper; however, now it's sitting abit offset. But,,the gate fell on my hood leaving a sizable dent, and missing paint.

I can't tell if it's fix-able or not,,so I'm considering my options. If it can be fixed, excelent that's what I'll do. If it can't I'm considering getting an after-market hood.
Should I go with the cowl hood, ram air,,,Wait for Jonas/Speedtweaks to come out? What I'm most concerned about is that's it after Xmas, and I'll short on play money for awhile. (oh-ya,,I'm an idiot for having a $1000 deductible too).

Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I can do? I'm really considering getting a new hood. Can someone suggest a nice looking hood for a reasonable price? Can anyone hook a fellow Dakota lover - recent college grad. up?

Get an AAR "ram air" fiberglass hood.They are the best looking.But don't bother with the underhood stuff,it's crap, just get an Intense Performance stage III cold air kit.This is my set-up and I totally love it!!!

Hey Dave, what did you pay for your hood? I love the look of those hoods.

I lucked out and found a guy who would repair, and paint the old hood for $300,, and would paint a new hood for $250.
I really don't want to spend too much money on the hood, and right now fixing the old one from that guy sounds the most economical ($300)
Did you get a good deal on the AAR Hood?

I spent $450 for the hood alone.Another $200 for painting,pre-fitting and install. (it had to be redone later because it started bubbling,but that was done at no charge) I got the underhood plumbing off ebay for $60 but trashed all that because it was junk.If I had realized that the hoods were made about 200 miles from where I live in Florida,I might have been able to get it cheaper and save on shipping.You'll notice that the hood scoop openings have a crease around them to simulate the original Challenger inserts.My hood is black and the "inserts" are silver.Leave the scoop openings intact and just paint them flat black.Use a good cold air system that will take air from the grill area.Don't bother with cutting out the hood openings, it's not worth it! Believe me! I still have my original steel hood in perfect condition if you or anyone else is intrested.

Thanks for the info Dave. Did you purchase your hood directly from AAR fiberglass?, or from another company?
Once it was light outside I could fully see the damage,, and it was no-where near what I first thought. It still needs to be repaired or replaced. I think I'll go with the AAR hood,,looks bad-a$$. But I'm gonna shop around to find a good price.
Kinda like repairing my hood. Spent one day getting quotes for two small dents, and new paint. Out of a dozen places (all in Austin, TX) I got prices from $1K to $700. Talked to a friend of the family, directed me to a guy (ASE certified and all that good stuff),,who, like I said earlier, could repair, and paint the old hood for $300 even. Kinda show's ya, how much you (us) get ripped in the market.

I bought my hood from a local speed shop.I think I might have paid too much.Like I said,the company that makes them is on the east coast of Florida, and I live on the west coast,I could have just driven over and bought directly from the factory or at least from an area shop and saved the freight charges.Oh well, live and learn!
$300 for the repair sounds pretty good! I'd go for it, assuming he guarantees his work and uses good materials and dosen't scrimp on the volume of paint he uses.Correct me if I'm wrong,but I heard somewhere that you need something like three coats of base color and three or more coats of clear.Of course you will only need that many base coats over the actual repaired areas (bondo,etc), but the more, the better.Good luck!
