Message: Do not waste your $$.
On throttle-body-injection engines, you may see some benefit because a spacer insulates the TB from the engine heat.
(The 4.7L V8 hemi is NOT throttle-body-injection AND has a composite intake manafold that insulates the TB allready)
A true cold-air intake or free-flow exhaust (not over 2.5 inches diameter) may be a better way to spend your $$

Message: Some claim it helps 4.7s but I haven't seen concrete evidence of that yet. All it does is suck $ out of your pocket and put it in someone elses. What it will do is disturb the smooth flow pattern that we work so hard to achieve. This does nothing for M.P.G. and hurts H.P. Swirl and tumble is only good inside the cylinder head and can only be created as it enters the chamber. That is the technology on the LS-1 engines.

They advertise these spacers as being able to produce up to 20 extra horsepower. Is this believable or would it be a waste of money?

A stock Dakota is great place to start

Message: they are worth it if you have a metal based intake-they help insulate the tb from heat. they can in most cases work on a system where the fuel is applied before the spacer-by helping swirl and tmble thereby increasing fuel atomization. on a but in most cases such as a 5.9L or 4.7L dont bother the intake is designed for dry flow, so who cares about swirl and tumble, the only place where that matters is in the combustion chamber and intake port where the fuel is mixed. dont bother getting one for the 4.7L.

Message: i forgot to mention they can increase plenum volme, not really good for for low end on carbed vehicles, but if matched correctly ie four holer to four barrel and then tapered to ease air entryinto the manifold they can be benificial by inreasing air velocity which is what we all want.

Message: Thanks all, I have really been wondering this myself, I actually was just going out to buy one for my 2000 4.7. Trick flow makes a 1" spacer as well but with no swirl, does anyone feel this would help? In the Summit catolage they claim it boosts your low rpm torque and increases fuel economy?

There better things to spend your money on, if you haven't yet, the HO cams can be bought for about $110-FOR THE PAIR!

Message: Do a search on this site for the HO cams.
I got a link to a Dodge dealer in Wakefield R.I. I believe, that shipped the HO cams to my door for ~$120 total. I do think KRC now has some slightly different grinds perhaps, but for the money, you can't go wrong there. You can get teh HO manifold too!

Message: go with the cams, make your own phenolic spacer with some high temp plastic or some well sealed plywood, cut to shape by the gasket and then hand blended.

Message: Thanks guys for the info on the heads and the spacer but what performance gains can be expected with a 1" spacer? I believe the Trick Flow unit is allready made from phenolic but the nice thing is that it includes all the required hardware.

Message: Thanks Tex, guess I'll stick with the K&N cold air intake and forget about the spacer. FYI the guys at KRC said the same.
