Subject: Dyno #s for 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: I took my truck to Kenny Brown Performance in Indianapolis and put my truck on the dyno.
Raw #s at the rear wheels..
Horsepower=190
Torque=248
2001 quad, 4.7, auto, 3.92,16" wheels, power everything, Showroom stock except dirty drop-in K&N. The technition said that autos loose about 17% from flywheel to rear wheels and sticks loose about 15% on average. My truck falls right in that range. A little tip if anyone takes thier truck to the dyno. Disconnect the 97mph governer cause they run the test in 3rd gear on autos and 4th gear on sticks. Yes, the autos shift into 2nd and you get a funny looking chart. When I make some changes I will take it back and we will all have some hard true #s about what really adds HP and TQ.

Message: I ment to say you need to disconnect the speedometer not the governer. Sorry for the confusion.
You can disconnect the speedometer at the rear differential. On top of the rear end there is a plug with some wires coming out of it that plugs into the diff.. Push together the tabs on the side of the plug and pull. This is the pickup for the speedometer. Your ABS light will come on when you do this. I don't know why. Probably cause the computer senses that the speedometer is not working. Truck ran fine without it pluged in and the brakes worked fine too.

Message: Correct me if I'm wrong but I think your rear ABS is read at the ring gear, I beleive there is a gear on the back maybe?? When you unplug that wire you say your ABS light comes on, well your breaks will be fine but the ABS part will not work (they won't pulsate)

Message: Uh Oh, I think maybe somebody found out how to not rack up mileage on the computer by unplugging speedo from rear diff. No speedo, no odometer and the computer can't read what it is not getting... The posters from the other thread regarding this should have something to talk about again:)
I wish I dyoned my truck before my mods, too much of a pain to take them off now. I am curious what my rwhp is now though, guess I should check the yellow pages for a local shop that can hook me up!

Message: The disconecting trick does not work on the 2000. Only disconcected the ABS, not the speedo. Speedo must be picked up somewhere else....

Message: could there be a way to put an adjustable resistor on the speedo so you could tun it to say 20mph below the actual speed and have the speed limiter cut in 20mph later? or a switch?

Message: I am installing a Tru Speed Calibrator made by Superlift on my truck this weekend. It goes in-line between tranny and computer, changing the signal to read the right tire size for correct speedo and shift points. It is adjustable for any tire size. If you are familiar with electronics enough you may be able to make someting that would operate similar to the Tru Speed or modify it to your need.

Message: I may be able to use one of those. I don't want it because of large tires but if the pcm takes the speedo signal to tell when to kick in the speed limiter I could modifie the signal to trigger later.
since my car is auto I don't look down when racing anyway. lol

Message: The dyno numbers are NOT corrected for altitude and humidity.
190HP is the raw number.
I have a 2001 4.7.. Taking the plug off the TOP OF THE REAR DIFF. WILL disconnect the speedo and will not register miles. I DO NOT ENDORSE DOING THIS TO KEEP MILES OFF YOUR TRUCK!!! I only mentioned this to keep the speedlimiter from kicking in during the dyno run. I don't know if the ABS is disabled. I did not try to lock the brakes up while it was disconnected.
By the way, I have one of the adjusters from KRC Proformance that you can calibrate your wheel size for your truck. I never used it cause I plan on getting a PCM flash that eliminates the speed limiter. I'll sell it cheap if anyone wants it.

Message: Out of curiousity, if you got a canadian insturment cluster (which is in km/h), remarked it "MPH", would you be able to use the adjuster make the gauges (both speedo and odo) accurate and end up with a speedo in the range of 200 w/ 160-180 cutoff? (ie: instead of 60MPH being half way, it's closer to 30%)

Message: Hey 2THEXTRM, I've been wanting to fix my speedo from large tires for a while but wasn't sure if the "Tru Speed" was worth it. You gotta let me know how thats works out for you!! I'm glad somebody is going to use it since I'm outta $$ to play with. ;- )
BTW - My 2002 (QC 4.7 5spd 3.92 LSD) doesn't seem to have a governer. Before I put my 33's on I ran the truck just past 110mph and then I backed off. I'm not sure how much faster I could've gone but with my new lift and tires... thats probably the fastest my truck will ever see again!

Message: Hey TalllQuad, from reading previous posts about governers, I guess there's some set at 98mph and some set at 117mph. Sounds like you have the one to have hehe. I haven't even thought of taking mine up there, I just picked up my 02 CC and made sure I had all the HD stuff I can get and it seems a little too top heavy for me to be goin that fast, this is my first real truck I just tradded in a 99 s10 xtreme and that was on the ground comared to my new Dakota 4x4.
