Subject: Supercharger/power chip? IP: Logged
Message: I was interested in upgrading my Dakota for more speed and torque. I found two things on the advice of my friend's dad. He has a power chip in his Dakota and is getting good power, but I have also found a supercharger for the 3.9 V6. Supercharger is kinda $$$ so is it worth the investment or will the power chip do? Do you have to run high octane on both? I know supercharger voids warrenty, but does the power chip? Thanks in advance for any help.

Message: Nothing can void your warranty unless it is the root cause of the problem. The burden of proof lies with either the manufacturer or dealer. What kind of power chip do you have? Whatever it is, it is highly unlikely that it can increase your HP like the SC can. Before you opt on the SC though, you need to make sure you understand all of the DO's and DON'Ts otherwise you could have a ruined engine with a voided warranty.

Blowers do put a little bit more stress on the engine so it's harder to prove that it wasn't the fault...driveline, engine internals, etc.
But....
