Message: hi all.....getting a tad antsy, so i sent an email to K&N. here is the response:
Our R&D department has been designing and testing kits for the Dodge 4.7 Rams and Dakotas for several months. At this time, testing has not brought results that meet our standards for improved horsepower. We have some prototypes currently in testing now and if all goes well hope to have them in production in the very near future.
Unfortunately, though, until and unless the results of the current tests are positive and meet our standards, we cannot estimate when production will begin.
Please check back periodically or check our online application guide at http://www.knfilters.com/appinq.htm for update.
here is my question (s). would somebody please tell me what is so different about the 4.7 that some fairly common add-on's dont work. for example....exhaust robbing low end power. also, if k&n says their FIPK doesnt "meet their standards" how come other brands work? im mostly confused as to the touchiness of this engine...... thanks for the time

Message: It must have something to do with the engine being ohc instead of a pushrod. I have seen other posts where the people have said that it is easier to modify the 5.9 v8. (pushrod)

Message: ok....got the ohc thing down. actually, i did know that....i just "out-thunk" myself. but im still curious....why does this setup get affected by mods that rob it of backpressure. how does lacking pushrods cause this?

Message: My guess is that the 4.7 is tuned in too perfect for some mods to work well. A muffler along will lose power, however a muffler and a throttlebody will gain. An engine is always happiest when it's matched up and only swapping one component will skew it's matching.
