Subject: autolites and oil IP: Logged
Message: I am going to do a tune up on my 4.7 and I was wondering how many quarts the engine holds...never got a owners manual with my truck...also I was going to buy some 3923's and I was wondering what to gap them at...the truck is stock with intake and exhaust...thanks for the help.

Message: Ask the service person how much oil it takes next time you have it changed and check the label under the hood for the gap.

Message: Just did exactly that last weekend on my 4.7. Plug gap is .040, crankcase capacity is 6 quarts. Check the stick after 4 though, I usually only get 4.5 to 5.5 quarts in.

Message: Mine takes 6 quarts. Also some like to gap them at .035.

If you have the skid plates take the one in front off.

Message: Engine holds 6 quarts of oil!! THe transmission holds 8 quarts with filter change.
