Message: Hello,
I am looking into a nice intake system for my 4.7L, and want to get something that is nice that won't cause problems if I lift the truck, body or suspension. I also want to add headers, and an exhaust. My Dak is a 2001 4x4 Quad cab, 5 speed, and a 3.92 rear, and stock tires for now. I want to be able to take an R/T with no problem, and not have to shift into 4th going up Colorado I 70.

Message: The AirAir system retains your stock (restrictive) airbox that sits on the throttle body while the Intense Performance replaces the entire system.

Message: With just an cold air intake, and headers, you still have a long ways to go to beating a R/T.

Message: No you don't. There's several 4.7's running 14.8-15.2 in (almost) factory form. Minors mods such as TB, muffler, and cold air kit. This is right on par with the R/T's.

Message: Just thought I would give you an idea of how an R/T handles I-70. I have a 99 R/T CC with K&N FIPK and F&B 50mm and drive I-70 somewhat frequently.
Haven't driven up I70 since the TB install though so this data is only for the FIPK mod.
Cruise Control set at approx. 68mph
Floyd hill--------------OD
Hill West of Georgetown-OD
West bound to Eisenhower-OD
Vail Pass(westbound)-OD
Eisenhower(eastbound)-downshifts 2-3 times to 3rd(60 mph)
Vail Pass (eastbound)-don't know-always get stuck behind one of those damn SUVs trying to pass a 18-wheeler!!
This is just for comparison. Not trying to start a flame war between the 2 engines.
K&N was a big improvement for me. Highly recommended.
Also, my mpg jumps dramatically in the mountains, have any of you noticed the same?

Message: I live in Loveland, just south of Fort Collins. I have to downshift to 4th at the begining and at Georgetown. I am looking at getting better gas milage but the best performance.

Message: Speedtweeks says to do the following to get the best bang for the buck.
The best system is the 70mm Flometrics Throttle body with 4" Custom
Z-Tube, and a good cat-back exhaust system.
What do you guys think? Also has anyone tried the Holley filters?

Message: I don't know about the Z-tube, but I assume it is comparable to the K&N. Got a best ever MPG of 18.9 going from Denver to Glenwood Springs with just the K&N. Couldn't believe it! (Calculated, not overhead readout) When I installed the TB my milage went down considerably for the first 500 miles(14.1), but 1300 miles after installation my MPG has slowly started to climb (14.8). THis is not highway though so not a direct comparison.(commute from Downtown to Lockheed Martin aka Chatfield) Milage is still steadily climbing so I think my computer is a little slow to learn-like the driver?;)
I am guessing the PCM is a little more sophisticated in the 4.7 so, hopefully, you will see a difference sooner.
K&N improved throttle response and low end power.
No more downshifting past Georgetown!
TB improved throttle response even more and added a stronger feeling top end.
Here's how my truck did stock(for comparison)Cruise Control set at approx. 68mph

Hill West of Georgetown-downshift to 3rd
West bound to Eisenhower-downshift to 3rd
Vail Pass(westbound)-downshift 2-3 times

Message: If you are a budget, this is an excellent mod that I got from this guy on ebay. He auctions them often. I removed the air dam on the front of the vehicle to allow better air flow to the filter and built an air barrier between the filter and engine to help keep the hot air out. I got an increase of 3 mpg and has added excellent sound.

Message: The one thing I didn't like about the Z-Tube is it
zig zags in the engine compartment too
much.Too me it just seems like the air has too
much time to heat up.
The intense might be better in that respect.
The one thing you need to check out is what
they're made of and if they're ceramic
coated.ie,too keep the heat out.
Or you might like to take a look at the Volant air
intakes.I'm not to bias,I have one on order at
the moment.
The thing I like about it is the intake tube is
just about the same size as the TB.
NO major bends or 90's.
The one thing I don't like is the price
compared to what it's made out of.Plastic.
$208.00/plus $10.00 shipping to Illinois.

Yes Bernd, there are several 4.7's running with R/T in almost factory form, but none of them are 4x4's which Skeletor says he has!! I was just be honest with him about his vehicle and mods.

Message: From the pictures on EBay I could make that myself and try using the Holley Filter, which is supposed to have better airflow and be cheaper. I already have the pipe from doing my sinks in my laundry room. Has anyone heard of the Holley's performance.
