Subject: Question for Dunner IP: Logged
Message: How did you handle fuel enrichment for you turbo. Because I hear you talking about putting the stock controller back in to tow with so I assume that it isnt a custom programed computer. Olso how did you get the computer to not freak out about the higher than atmospheric pressures? Map by pass?

Message: Yes, I am using the stock PCM when towing. I use the custom PCM at the track.... with good fuel.
The fuel enrichment is handled by a Vortech FMU and an additional high volume/high pressure fuel pump. The FMU is simply a boost controlled fuel pressure regulator. When it sees boost it sends more fuel pressure to the fuel rails/injectors. The more boost it sees.... the more fuel pressure it allows.
The stock MAP sensor is only good for reading vaccuum. It has no idea what boost is. Once the MAP sensor sees no vaccuum and the TPS is at WOT- the computer goes to open loop. The PCM automatically assumes the engine is under full load. To overly simplify things somewhat... in open loop the PCM only knows that the engine gets X amount of fuel for X amount of rpms. If you send a proportionate amount of fuel pressure to equal the boost... the engine stays running with the proper air/fuel mixture. As it is right now, I am actually running it overly rich when under boost. It's slower but safer that way and also allows some safety margin for bad batches of fuel.
