Message: If all your interested in is going fast in a straight line then the 4.7L offers performance that is about equal to the R/T. If you enjoy agressive driving like I do then the R/T is the only way to go. The R/T has a much better suspension than the standard 4.7L Dakota. The springs, role bars, and shocks can't handle the extra wieght of the 16" sport wheels Dodge is putting on the 2002 and newer modles. They are squirmy as hell. My 2002 wiggles and jiggles all over the road. It's scarey as hell on I40 between Little Rock, AR. and Memphis, TN at 90mph. The ruts are so bad that my SLT feels like the ass end wants to swap around. When it rains I have to back way off. My R/T on the other hand handles uneven pavement and pot holes with grace. It is well worth the price differnce to get the R/T. Why are we still discussing this topic? Unless you buy a used R/T there is nothing to discuss here.

Message: I've got a 2003 Sport reg cab with 4.7,3.92, AWD,Handling pkg,5900 GVW. The stiffer springs and rear sway bar takes care of that. The AWD is the greatest on wet and snow too. You just about can't loose traction. Run your tire presure up to 45lbs. Alot of that wiggle will go away on the highway at speed. 1/4 mile times are fun,but they only last 15 seconds. I've driven sports cars since the 60's and this little truck is the next best thing without saying Porsche (Ashville, NC too Johnson City, TN 60 miles through the mountains in 45 minutes)on the back. Besides the Porsche couldn't haul 1800 pounds of feed or a 7000lb horse trailer.

Message: The problem is definately in the rear suspension. It feels like it needs a track bar like the ones used on the Caprice Classic Police cars. Unfortunately, I'll never know the cure for this trcuk's handeling ailments because I just sold it today. I actually like the way it runs better than my R/T. The throttle response of the 4.7L is much better than the R/T's. Also, the 4.7L's tranny shifts much quicker than the R/T's tranny. I just like the R/T better. The 4.7L V8 is a better engine and the transmission behind the 4.7L is a much better transmission. The only area the R/T shines is in the suspension and aftermarket parts.
